Severus Snape, Harry Potter and that Pesky Canon, Barplaceshapedthing

Aug 11, 2008 10:59

He's been locked up and away from the bar for nearly a week. He sort of prefers it that way, honestly. But even Severus can find a room stuffy and need some sort of stimulation after a week alone pouring over new notes and scrolls that Draco gave him ( Read more... )

Someone nearby (read: on the couch, just a few feet away) is snoring.

It's not loud, really, but it's constant enough to be considered annoying by anyone with functioning ears.

Boors are aggravating. However, the solution is simple. A ward drawn and the word, "Silencio," uttered while it points at one Mr. Smart.

Oh look! No more snoring.

Magic is convenient like that.

Unfortunately, when Max wakes up ten minutes later and realizes he can't order a glass of cranberry juice from a passing rat because he can't make any noise, he kind of starts freaking out.

Snape's eyes lift from his book and smirks, just a little.

He'll watch for a minute before a subtle flick of his wand and the counter charm is cast.

" -ING I'M DYING I'M DYING I'M - "

He claps a hand over his mouth.

Okay, he's not dying.

... that was weird.

After smoothing down his suit in an attempt to look calm and collected, he scans the room for a possible culprit.

Severus' wand has surrepitously disappeared, but he is looking at Smart on ocsasion as if he's vaguely amused. Maybe it's just that he never grew out of Muggle baiting, despite that he should have learned better years ago... But he really does enjoy watching the man think he's been assaulted.

He sort of has, but -- really, that's not much more then a juvenile prank. All the same, Snape doesn't announce his guilt, but he dosen't pretend innocence either...

But Max has no proof! So there.

It's true, Max has no proof.

He is, however, the sort of guy to single out the most suspicious looking person in the room and focus his energy on figuring out whether or not that person is to blame. Yes, it is discrimination, but his instincts have rarely let him down.

This is why he is now staring at Snape with a very suspicious glint in his eye.

Snape returns the glance and then looks back at his book.

Yup. Dismissal is clear.

Hmmm.

"Excuse me," he says, "did you, ah, happen to see anyone... I dunno, do anything weird to me while I was asleep?"

"Other then you drooling onto the pillow?" Snape begins, brow arching.

Well, that's pretty weird to him. He doesn't drool.

Max's eyes narrow, just a little.

"Okay, but did anyone do anything to me?"

"Did they?"

He was doing something to the noise, if you'd like to be specific.

"It was you, wasn't it?"

"Are you going to start tossing accusations at a stranger?" Snape asks, his brows arching. "I do believe that's the actions of a cad and a beast."

And he's dead on, but Snape's not going to confirm it. There's more fun in simply turning this around on Smart. Maybe if he plays his cards right, Smart'll think he's really done something wrong.

Max folds his arms.

"I am tossing accusations at the person I think is responsible for my temporary muteness - a beast?"

That's a new one.

"Well, it's rude -- and might bring the law on an innocent man. That's the actions of an beast, I would think." Snape suggests smoothly, his tone unhurried and unconcerned.
