wes janson - star wars - bar.

Jun 22, 2008 01:51

Wes is pretty startled when he walks through the door and gets a magic bar instead of his bedroom. It's been a while, for him.

Not a long while, though -- his hair's a little shorter, a little neater, but it's the only difference -- and he smiles brightly after a few seconds and heads towards the Bar.

A smoothie and some cookies. That's what he

The door disappeared after Zekka was taken.

She watched it fade away. It frightened her...it was her future, gone. Because the Hannibals had taken Zekka and killed him. Or tortured him...probably resulting in his death. She'd stayed upstairs for a few days after that.

Only, even Inyri needs to eat after so many days of living off cigarettes. And she got tired of idly staring at the nail marks across her stomach. She showered, she brushed her teeth, made herself look presentable.

And then she proceeded to nearly eat her weight in the most random food the waitrats would bring her. And then Wes walked back in. She watched him (from across the bar; she'd chosen a dark corner booth) for a long moment before grabbing her sandwich and wandering up to him. "Hey."

He's sipping his smoothie, hasn't touched the little plate of cookies on the Bar yet, and he lowers the glass a little as he look around. His smile widens at the sight of Inyri. (There's only an edge of guilt beneath it.)

"Hey! You're still here. I didn't know if you would be."

"Can't leave, now." She murmurs, smiling awkwardly at him. "Uh, the door's gone. And...thanks the the events while you were gone, I'm not sure it's coming back..."

"--this place has a weird sense of irony," he says with a slight laugh.

It dies when he registers the rest.

"Wait, what happened? Are you okay?

"He came back." She shrugs. "And they stopped him. Hannibal. Uhm, the Hannibals. They took him away. I think he's dead. But that's my life with him. I can't go back now. Even if I wanted."

She shrugs again and presses her teeth into her sandwich, forcing herself to take a bite.

... well, that's a lot to take in. Wes isn't even sure which is the key detail to focus on. And trying to focus on all of it at once gives him a headache.

"They took him," he echoes, skipping the part where she knows who they even are. "That's ... that's probably good."

(It shouldn't hurt, should it? He couldn't help her himself, couldn't take care of her biggest problem for her, so his not'clones had to do it. There are probably worse people for the job, but...)

"You're not just saying that because the door's gone, are you? Why wouldn't you be able to go back?"

"It's a feeling. What if...because he'd just have disappeared in my world, all of these other things don't happen, then? I mean, we were there to help the Republic take over Coruscant. What if that doesn't happen now?"

Her voice grows shriller as she speaks, her fingers tight on her sandwich (she's not interested in eating it anymore). "I don't feel right, Wes. I...don't want to go back to see how badly things have screwed up."

It's quite obvious that she means how badly she screwed up.

"Hey -- hey, it's okay--"

He eases the sandwich out from between her fingers and puts it on the bar top, not looking away from her face. He takes her hands in his and offers a hopeful smile.

"You don't have to go back even if the door shows up again. Maybe things'll be fixed there, maybe it'll all be fine, but you don't have to worry about it if you don't want to."

"So, what?" She tilts her head. "I live here? Grow up here? Watch you leave before you finally stop coming back because you have out there? One you didn't kriff up?"

Inyri bites her lip and squeezes his fingers. "I've messed up everything."

He shakes his head, biting his own lip slightly -- something he's picked up from her.

"I don't think you have. Guy deserved whatever he got, you know that, so what does a little paradox matter?" He tries another smile. "Anyway, I think I'm way overdue an extended stay here, so don't worry about that."

She pulls her hand from his and rubs her thumb across his lower lip, tugging it from between his teeth. She studies his face for a long while.

"'Kay." Inyri nods, compressing her own lips as her fingers fall from his. "Okay."

He blinks, then smiles ruefully.

"Okay," he echoes with a nod. "And I won't go anywhere, I promise. I-- I missed you."

"I missed you too," She whispers, pressing her palms against his and edging closer.

His smile widens and he moves forward enough to rest his forehead against hers.

"So we're still -- I mean, you still want me to stay with you?"

She laughs, softly, before sliding her hands up his arms, tucking herself against him. "No, see, I moved on in the few days you were gone. To my double, Darla. Gods, we're so hot."

She flashes him a grin before kissing him.

Wes's eyes widen -- wait, double? (wait, few days?) -- but kissing is distracting, and he closes them. He's willing to accept kissing in place of asking lots of annoying questions, at least temporarily.
