Well, here's a distraction, in the form of her boyfriend... 's sister. But that's all right, since Eliza was sort of looking for both of them anyway.
"You wouldn't happen to know where Aidan's got to, would you?"
(She doesn't expect Val to know all the time, of course. But more often than some.)

"Er, no?" Val looks up. "I, er, haven't seen him, sorry. Uh, was I supposed to?"

"That would be entirely up to the two of you. That's all right. I had an idea, and I can tell you first if he doesn't show up soon."

"What's up?" Val raises an eyebrow. "I am certainly bored enough to do just about anything." She pauses and facepalms. "That came out wrong."
