There are advantages to having been Sorted to Slytherin - even when you're the Girl Who Lived and therefore constantly getting Howlers and other assorted forms of hate mail from disappointed former Gryffindors who expected you to join their ranks. Foremost among those advantages is having a Head of House who liked your mother a lot and enjoys ( Read more... )

As his mother else-thread is too brain-broken at a sensible Lucius and a dead Regulus, yet another sixteen-year-old Gryffindor wanders by, muttering to himself about a rather complicated potion. He looks over at the red-haired girl, paying no attention to clothing or robes, and smiles off-handedly. "Hi, Aunt Lily" He then moves on to a table where a cauldron is set up, and starts in making someting.

Heather looks up sharply, surprised. "Excuse me? What did you just call me?"

It's actually the first time she's been called by her dead mother's name. Which is a little surprising, all things considered.

"Er." Kevin actually looks up. "Uh... sorry." He turns bright red. "I, uh, thought you were my aunt. Sorry. You look a lot like her. Um." And oddly, a bit like his boyfriend. That's kinda freaky.

"....Lily was my mother's name...I'm, er, Heather. Heather Potter...I'm told I look like her..."

Oh, this is going to be interesting.

"But....." Kevin blinks about ten times before he can answer. "I really hope Mama doesn't exist in your world, because I don't want to think what she'd be like without Aunt Lily." It's a deeply disturbed face. "Aunt Lily and Uncle James have two boys back home, Harry and Tony."

"Ohh."

Heather nods, understanding.

"You're from one of those worlds where I'm a boy and a Gryffindor, aren't you? I met a girl earlier...this place does stuff like that a lot. I'm an only child, my parents died when I was a year old."

"Oh. Yeah. Harry's a Gryffindor, but he takes more after Aunt Lily. Gracie wouldn't put up with him otherwise." Kevin shrugs. "You're probably from a world without Mama, then. Cause Aunt Lily and Uncle James got attacked, but Bella was stupid and just hid them in stupid places, and Mama found everyone." Shrug. "Mama does that."

"What's your mother's name?" Beat. "For that matter, what's your name? You know mine."

She's probably going to wait and drop 'Slytherin' on him when she decides whether she likes him or not.

"Mom's Anne Vincent-Black. And I'm Kevin Remus Black." Yes, he likes his full name.

Kevin wouldn't mind Slytherin. He doesn't want that kind of look from his father. Besides, his sister's a Hufflepuff.

"Ohh. I met Mrs. Black here, a few threads hours ago," Heather says, enlightened. "We think that she probably stayed in America in my world, because I've never met her, and neither Remus nor Sirius ever mentioned her name when they told me about Mum's friends."

"Mama's around here a lot. Sometimes she's younger than me which is... really kinda scary." Kevin shrugs. "I could see my grandparents staying in America. They're just... so weird. I don't know how Mama got so sensible."

"I hope I don't meet my mother here. It'd be weird. And she'd...probably be disappointed in me."

Heather hesitates a minute, then holds up her green-and-silver tie.

"My dad too, I'd bet."

Kevin raises an eyebrow. "Uncle James would fuss cause he does that, but I really think Aunt Lily would be fine." He thinks for a moment. "She likes Daddy, and he's about the most Slytherin to ever Slytherin. Well, when Mama's not accusing him of being a closet Ravenclaw." He shrugs. "Aunt Lily just wants her kids to be happy and not annoying. Doesn't matter where they go." Pause. "Unless that's just Mama's influence in my world." It's hard to pick apart sometimes.

"If I'd been raised by my parents, or even by Sirius, I probably wouldn't have ended up in Gryffindor in the first place," Heather admits. "But my parents were killed and Sirius was framed for murder and sent to Azkaban, so I got shipped off to Mum's sister and her husband...they hate magic, tried to stamp it out of me...I didn't get to leave until I was 15 and...Sirius' name was cleared."

There's a lot more to it than that really, but it's personal.

"So...your father is Sirius' brother, right?"

Kevin just makes a face. "Mama's said that Petunia is.... special." And that's Kevin being polite. "Yeah. Uncle Sirius hangs around the country house with Uncle Remus. Mama always says it's a good place because it has a lovely large yard for that time of the month." Kevin shrugs. "And... I guess people could be in different places. I think Mama would have been an amazing Slytherin, but she needed Uncle Remus and Aunt Lily." His eye is then caught by the book. "Oh, do you like Potions?"

"Yes, it's my favorite class. Professor Snape gave me his old book for my birthday yesterday, I've been devouring it ever since."

Heather's not going to touch how 'special' Petunia is.

"Yeah, Sirius and Remus live together in my world too. They think they're subtle about it, but they're really not."
