"You look like someone a bovine trampled on," Jono says conversationally to Charles as he stops up at the bar.

His own personal shields are up and he's not trying to get into Charles' mind either. He's being polite. :O

Charles isn't skimming anyone's mind at the moment because he's tired and he hasn't been here,

"I had a long day."

Jono thinks about this for a moment. "Those happen."

"Yes, they do and was enjoying some moments of extra time here."

"It's an odd thing, here. The extra time..." he muses briefly, caught in some sort of distant thought. "I often wonder if you spent years here would you grow older and if so, what would happen when you leave."

"I imagine you'd feel rather like Rip van Winkle but then not everyone ages the same way."

"Who?" Jono's not familiar with the story. He then adds, "No. My folk age slower than humans. Two years to their.. your? one. We're not considered adults until we're twenty five."

"It's an old story about a man who loses many years of his life due to magic and returns to find everyone he's known has aged or died."

Here Jono's eyes light up in recognition. "We have stories like that. To warn us from going to play with the fair folk."

"Yes, this one usually refers to a variation on them or something else."

"What do your stories warn children against?"

"All sorts of things, it depends on the story. They're not something I've every looked at too much."

He laughs. "Not your thing. No. I suppose not."

Charles raises an eyebrow at the laugh as it comes across as quite rude,

"I read them when I was younger but I'm a scientist not an anthropologist."

He doesn't mean it as rude. It just amuses him and the twinning bits of future and past he sees within Charles.

"What's an anthropologist?" He's not reading minds so he's not picking the meaning up.

"Someone who studies culture."
