A drunk should be in a bar, really. It's just the safest place for them in a city. Of course, the bar has it's dangers, but they're no where near as bad as outside where the lights are almost non-existant and there's no bartender to make sure it doesn't get too nasty ( Read more... )

Axel feels the world twist a little nearby, and he looks over with some interest. That sort of thing doesn't happen so often that it can be overlooked, and there's always the chance that it's someone looking for him, which would be bad.

Nick doesn't look back. He feels the eyes on him, what performer wouldn't?, but he doesn't look back.

That would be Bad.

Instead, he knocks on the bar and asks for another beer.

Axel looks back to his own drink after a moment - something transparent, and very strong, that he has to make a constant effort to not ignite. The problem with trying to get drunk when you're Fire.

"It was the TV special, wasn't it?"

...he's assuming Axel's "recognized" him.

Axel looks back, eyebrow raised. "...What TV special? I'm not from around here."

"Ah."

There's a pause, a sip, and then he turns a little... never meeting Axel's eye or even looking at his face, though.

"Did you see one of the shows then? Not the television, on the stage? I've been mostly East Coast for a few years."

Axel shakes his head. "I'm really not from around here." He tosses back the rest of his drink before it can burn away on him, and it ignites on its way down his throat.

Another drink, wasted.

Blink.

"Oh."

He leans back against the bar with one arm and keeps his eyes heavenward.

"Would you like a demomomonstration?"

Axel raises an eyebrow. "Demonstration?" he asks. He tilts his head curiously. "What is it that you do?"

He signals the barman for another drink, pointing at something with a lower proof. Maybe some of it will actually get into his system this time.

He wavers before wiggling his fingers in a vaguely mystical way.

"I am... a magician!"

"Stage, sorcery, or both?" Axel asks, perfectly serious.

"Stage."

He blinks and almost looks up at Axel before turning sharply.

"What, you think I meant like one of those new agers? Jesus, no."

Blink. New agers? It has to be something specific to this world. And he's starting to get a bit curious.

Why was this guy trying so hard to avoid looking at him?

"I wouldn't mind a demonstaration."

He reaches into a pocket and pulls out a deck of cards, spreading them out on the bar counter.

"Pick one."

He proceeds with a rather elementary card trick. He'd do something truly spectacular, except that he's somewhat inebriated. That said, this is pie compared to his usual.

Axel draws a card from the deck - the ace of hearts, which makes him snort - and then watches the trick.

He's reminded of both Luxord, and Castle Oblivion.

"Not bad."

He snorts.

"I've got more alcohol than blood right now. If I were at all interested in being sober in the forseable future, I'd tell you to just wait and see, but that was about as good as I can account myself to be right now, if you don't mind."
