minor spoilers for "Scream 4" - more minor than it mght look, I promisemm_catslashApril 16 2011, 17:30:47 UTC
Chloe came into Milliways about thirty seconds ahead of Tom, giving her just enough space to turn and blink at the commotion behind her.
Then her expression changes from mildly confused to mildly put-upon. Trust Milliways to prove her wrong.
Whatever. At least Rachel was nice and quiet during the movie. And Chloe still has her knife, sticky with Rachel's blood. It's a good knife, nice long blade, ideal for sliding through a zombie's eye and into its brain.
Which might just happen, if this guy can't hold them back.
[OOC: My internet access is sporadic. Slowtimes are inevitable, but I will do my best to keep up. Oh, and Kirsten Bell doppelganger shenanigans are totally welcome.]
She needs some peace and quiet to think, anyway, and she's not going to get it in Milliways if zombies take over.
And she definitely has the edge in this battle. She's the killer.
(Genre crossover makes that a little trickier, but she'll worry about that later.)
Chloe tightens her grip on her knife and lunges.
The base of the blade, as it turns out, is a little too wide for an eye socket. She can't get it all the way in. Still, it goes in far enough, and that's one less Cowboys fan in the multiverse.
No time. As the Cowboys fan falls with a crash, halfway blocking the door, two more start pushing their ways in. Tom gets one of them in the head; it falls backwards into the store.
The second zombie stumbles as the first falls, tripping and dropping to its knees with no attempt at all to catch itself. Chloe darts a glance behind it, then a glance at the guy with the gun, to make sure she won't get either grabbed or shot. Then she dashes forward, grabs the zombie by the hair, and yanks its head back to jam the knife into its eye.
She does it more smoothly this time, not trying to push it all the way in. The smart killers learn from their mistakes.
(Does she look like she's enjoying herself? Because she is. She thought she'd only get to use her knife once tonight.)
Tom fires three times in rapid succession, jerking the zombie's head three times. It drops. The other zombies are having trouble getting at the doorway with the growing pile of bodies, but they're still coming.
"Close the door close the door--"
That's gonna be difficult, Tom, our Cowboys fan is in the way.
Chloe maneuvers around to shove at the door and close it as far as it can currently go. Then she pauses, looks pointedly at the Cowboys fan, and then pointedly at Tom.
While the zombies don't have the intelligence to actively push against the door, there are enough piling up against it that the Cowboys fan quickly proves not to be the only obstacle. Chloe has all she can do to hold the door steady, pushing her entire (and not overly substantial) weight against it.
"I've never tried."
A hand grabs at the edge of the door, fingers snagging her hair. Chloe brings the knife down hard in a chopping motion, and one of the fingers hits the floor. The effort involved is enough to make her lose her battle against the door, and she retreats.
Chloe switches her knife into her other hand and takes the gun.
Her first couple of shots go wide, but the third manages to nail a zombie in the shoulder. It doesn't notice, but at least that's the right general region. It's a start.
(She likes her knife better, but hand-to-hand combat with zombies is only practical up to a point. They are well past that point.)
The .22 is powerful enough to knock some of the smaller zombies back, even if it doesn't stop them.
With Chloe backing him up, Tom can grab the Cowboys fan and drag him out of the way. The waitrats are probably not going to be happy about it, but better one rotting corpse than a zombie invasion.
That done, he gets next to Chloe and starts firing, picking off two zombies with headshots.
After Chloe manages to find a way to support her gun hand and hold on to the knife at the same time with her other hand, her aim improves considerably. She shoots twice at the zombie she'd caught in the shoulder, missing with the first bullet and getting it in the head with the second.
It falls back, and between that and Tom's shooting, the way clears enough for Chloe to make another try with the door. With her hands occupied, she uses her shoulder instead, and it slams resoundingly shut.
Then her expression changes from mildly confused to mildly put-upon. Trust Milliways to prove her wrong.

Tom straightens up, grabbing the .22 out of his back pocket and aiming for a fourth zombie just past the Elle-lookalike.
"Heads up!"

She cannot do all the work here, okay?

He hurries over, grabs the body by the wrist -- fires into the grocery store a couple times to try and deter the shamble -- and hauls.
"Fucking hell," he grunts, pulling again and ducking away from a grasping hand. "Can you shoot?"

"Shit," he says, finally bringing his gun down. "Think we're good."
