Sameth has been working on ideas about the Wall and stops when he sees Ariadne's books.

Those are some beautiful buildings and the way that wall joins just there has a symmetry which would work well in an older part of the Wall. Any dust that drops off of him onto her book is completely an accident.

Ariadne glances up, blinking, and gives him a polite smile.

"Can I help you with something?"

"Sorry, I was just thinking that kind of join would work well for something I'm working on,"

He realizes that he's being rude and takes a step back.

"Oh, yeah? What are you working on?"

"Repairing the Wall, there's a section that's not quite a gate but not really a tower that has a feel sort of like that,"

Carefully he points to the drawing since he's aware that he's still rather covered with the Wall, there's also a bandage wrapped around his right hand as if he cut his palm.

She blinks at him, taking in the dust and the bandage.

"Which wall would that be?"

It covers a surcoat that has on it a spade crossed with a tower and says,

"The Wall in the Old Kingdom, it divides us from Ancelstierre."

She cocks her head.

"I don't think I know where that is."

"Are you from Earth? If so that explains it, the Old Kingdom isn't there."

"Oh -- yeah, I'm from Canda. That would explain it."

"Very few people from my world come here. I'm used to it. The Wall is of stone and Charter construction so it has magic in it which makes it trickier to repair."

She looks intrigued.

"What does the magic do?"

"The Charter holds the Old Kingdom together and the Wall is one of its great protections."

"Wait, the Wall protects the magic, or the Kingdom?"

"The Wall protects the Old Kingdom and the Charter makes up the Old Kingdom."
