roleplay; in which Alfred and Arthur are accidental lovers

Feb 04, 2012 23:17

If there is one thing that Arthur loves and wouldn't give up on for anything in the world, it is his privacy. Even as a college student, he insisted that he had his own room, even if some of his friends would crash in his bed or on his floor; sadly, he didn't have a say in this, and even if he did, sometimes he was too drunk to care. Besides, with ( Read more... )

It's only college, and the family is not too far away. With two carry-on bags, a nice shiny credit card that his father gave to him for graduation (of course, with the typical warnings), and a collected smile, Alfred knocks on room 418.

Alfred got along with his previous roommate, Kiku, quite well. But the mere fact that he nearly flunked his astronomy class (apparently playing those video games that Kiku brought back from his homeland didn't count as studying) was enough for the blue-eyed boy to profusely apologize to his quiet friend, who of course, understood.

As Alfred waits at the door, his thoughts lingered to the one time his future roommate (Arthur Kirkland... had somewhat of a weird accent) and he talked on the phone. Perhaps his over enthusiasm scared the other, because he certainly didn't get a call again and was always contacted through email.

"Play it cool, Alfred. Play it cool. Just be quiet like Mattie," he mutters to himself.

The sound of knocking startles him, making the young man tighten his grip on the mug. He doesn't know a lot of things about his future roommate, aside from the fact that he is unnaturally excited about, well... probably everything.

And not punctual.

With another sigh, Arthur gets up from his seat and makes his way to the door to open it, scowl evident on his face. "You're late," he mutters, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

As the door opens, Alfred feels his chest tighten with excitement and... fear. He can't help but feel a little nervous, wondering if his new roommate will like him or not. Well, not like it mattered, since a deal's a deal.

He feels a wave of shock when a pair of furrowed (and thick, he notes) eyebrows with startling green eyes to accompany them greet the boy. Standing several centimeters shorter, Alfred isn't entirely sure why the physical appearance of his new roommate threw him off, but he feels his heart skip a beat, not realizing that he was... attractive.

He must bring home a lot of girls, with those looks, he decides, taking no notice of the clearly obvious scowl.

Alfred beams and holds his hand out. "Hi, I'm your new roommate, Alfred F. Jones, though I think you could figure that out from my bags and uh. Yeah." He gestures to the two large suitcases behind him and peeks into the room behind Arthur.

His determination falters a bit when he locks his eyes with the other's baby blues, making a faint flush appear on his cheeks. He blames that on his irritation and rolls his eyes.

"I'm Arthur Kirkland," he says, taking the other's hand in his and shaking it. He's not pleased about the fact that Alfred chose to ignore his previous comment, though. He gives the young man a long look and internally scowls again. 'I hope he isn't going to fill my house with his fangirls, this brat.'

Alfred grins. Things already seem like they're going alright, which is always a good thing. Despite Arthur's somewhat reserved nature, Alfred figures he could easily get the other to come out.

"So... wanna show me around the place?" he asks. "Oh! But I'll put my bags away in my room first... wait. I should probably find out about the place first. Oh, damn. I mean, uh. Do you care if I swear? I only do when I'm playing video games and-" He's already blabbering, and Alfred could sense the disinterest from the other rising. With this in mind, he shuts up by coughing into the crook of his arm.

"Um. How about you just show me around?" he asks, embarrassed.

Raising an eyebrow at the young man's monologue, Arthur sighs and steps to the side to let Alfred into the hallway. He doesn't know if it's a good or a bad decision yet, but there is plenty of time to find out.

Dragging his suitcases in, Alfred could immediately detect that Arthur is the clean sort. He hastily makes a mental note to try and keep himself a little more organized.

New semester, new roommate, might as well pick up some good habits, I guess, he tells himself.

"Nice place," he observes. He sees a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and two rooms, one door closed. "I'm guessing the open door's mine?"

"Thank you," he mutters, closing the door behind Alfred and glancing at the boy's suitcases. "That would be it. The one next to it is mine, aand..." he turns around to point at the other end of the hall, "that is the bathroom."

"Sweet," Alfred exclaims. He peers into his room, surprised by the spaciousness and looks back at his new roommate, grinning. "And do you go by any nicknames or anything? Because if not, I can always give you one, since I generally call all my friends by their nicknames. You could be Artie, or Eyebrows, or the Kirkster, except that sounds a little weird for you-"

He pauses, realizing that the other hardly said a word. Looking away, red tinting his face, he says "Sorry. I mean, wait. Sorry for apologizing a lot. Well, I just did again, but I'll stop. I'll settle down first and maybe we can just talk and chill or something?"

"Eyebrows--" he scowls at that, bottom lip jutting out just slightly. "Arthur it just fine." Sighing, he runs a hand through his blonde hair and glances at Alfred. "I'll go make some tea, then."

Make that a scotch. He is going to need it.

Alfred crinkles his nose with distaste at the word "tea." Something tells him that he's going to have to do his own separate grocery shopping... and possible readjusting to this man.

After unpacking his things (more like throwing all objects into the unused drawer and closet for sifting at last minute) and making his bed, Alfred walks to the kitchen and grins.

"That is definitely not tea," he says, pointing to the bottle that seemed far too conveniently close to Arthur. "You sly dog."

Arthur rolls his eyes, not quite liking how casually the other addresses him. "A few drops IN my tea," he mutters, pointing to the empty cup on the table.

"...Do you want some?"

"Er, I'll pass on the tea, thanks," he says hastily. "Hey, you don't really like to talk, do you?"

He looks curiously at his roommate, getting a better look. Flaxen-colored hair with dark, prominent eyebrows. Startling green eyes that look ready to kill and a scowl that seems far too permanent. Yet, this all seems incredibly... flattering on the other.

Impressive.

"Well, if you're uncomfortable with talking," he starts, "you could at least tell me what you don't like, Arthur. I can call you Arthur, right?" He smiles, giving the other a thumbs up.

Arthur opens his mouth, ready to say that a good conversation depends on a lot of things, but the kid is trying really hard and he'd hate to be the bad guy. He gestures to the seat across him and clears his throat.

"Yes, Arthur is fine... Alfred. And you don't have to worry about a lot of things, just...," the young man trails off, not really sure of what the other wants to hear. "Uh, I can only think of respecting privacy for now, but I guess that was already implied."

"Privacy, got it," Alfred makes a mental note of this and watches the other sip his tea with half-curiosity.

He clears his throat. "So, uh. ... what do you say we lay some rules down then? Not that I really have many, just really generic stuff, you know?"

This is so awkward, he thinks wildly. The atmosphere feel terrifying and dreadful. No, Alfie. You're gonna get through this. You need this for the sake of studying!

At least the kid's a fast learner, he thinks with slight satisfaction. Despite the fact that he seems rather excitable and... well, bubbly, he can't be that bad.

"Alright, then. What did you have in mind?" It's great that the young man has such a forward attitude, though. It brings a small smile to Arthur's lips and he hides it with a sip of his tea.
