my dear friend susie who i ADORE has just tagged me to make a list of 10 wierd/random things about emily. you can read susie's list
here, though i think she owes us an extra item because EVERYBODY knows susie loves tang. come on.
and without further ado...
actually i have to wait and interrupt myself before i begin because i don't think it's fair to make me create an entire list of things that make me wierd or random, you know, since everyone seems to think everything i do is wierd and random anyway, does it really need to be put into list form? i could pretty much take every moment of every day and just start writing them down and there you would have a list of about 600,000,000 wierd things about emily. every moment of my life. according to some people. so, i just wanted to say, that it's not fair, and it seems really redundant and like a way to make me point out the fact that i am VERY strange. so, thanks a lot susie. thanks a whole freakin' lot. jeez.
and yes, i'm going to start the list with 0 instead of 1 and work up to 9 instead of 10 just to make you think i'm even more wierd than i really am (though to be honest ever since i saw a show on tv about genius math kids/human calculators and learned they are better at math because they think in terms of 0-9 instead of 1-10 i have always prefered to think in terms of 0-9, even though i don't really know how this matters at all).
here we go.
0 - anna might have me in a tie on this one, but i think i have more journals than anyone on the planet. i start one and get about 10 pages into it (sometimes not even that far) and i don't like what i've done with it or i don't like the feel of it or i don't like the way it looks or ... anything. so i buy a new one and start over. everywhere i go i see blank books and they're possibly what i've spent more of my money on in my life than anything else. empty journals. waiting to be filled...
1 - i hate crumbs. anyone who has met me in spain will attest to this. i HATE crumbs. if i see crumbs anywhere i have to clean them up. on a table in a restaurant. on the counter in the kitchen. and i especially hate crumbs on the floor, since i am clearly the only person in all of spain who does not wear socks or slippers in the house year round, and so always get crumbs stuck on my feet. you can imagine how i dislike the fact that the older brother of our family here leaves crumbs EVERYWHERE. i clean up more crumbs in spain than anywhere ever before. the spanish habit of eating bread with every meal does not help, either, as they never put the bread on their plate (i still don't understand why) but instead just leave it sitting NEXT to the plate leaving crumb piles every time they pick it up. and then they get crumbs all over the floor and the chair and the everything because they do not eat the bread like a normal person but instead they rip apart the bread with their hands and crumbs go flying everywhere! and sometimes julen walks through the house eating cookies and i think i'm going to die! I HATE CRUMBS!
2 - i also strongly dislike water being anywhere other than in a sink or tub or in a glass or jug or other container. water on the counter, for example. little puddles of water on the floor. water on your feet when you're getting out of the tub. oh! and in movies when sometimes people just jump out of the bath with soap and water on them and put a bath robe on!!! oh my gosh!!!! I CAN'T HANDLE THAT! how can you put a dry robe on over wet skin...oh....man......NO. water belongs in a glass or a swimming pool or a lake or an ocean or perhaps being kindly dispersed to your plants. otherwise, keep water away from me.
3 - i really wish olives did not exist.
4 - strangely, given my dislike for out-of-place water, i lived in oregon for six or eight years -- portland and eugene, at that, the two rainiest places in all of oregon i'm sure of it -- and never owned an umbrella or a raincoat. in fact in high school once it started pouring outside right when class was about to start and i snuck out right before the teacher came in and stood under the gutters and jumped in the gigantic puddles and got completely soaking wet and then came back into class like nothing had happened. hm.
5 - i also once jumped in the ocean with all of my clothes on and then had to sit in clint's car for an hour and a half soaking wet and freezing.
6 - i usually wear flip-flops year round. even when i lived in chicago. i just really dislike having shoes on my feet. and, even more so, socks.
7 - i love math. i was just now looking out my window trying to focus on an insect flying around the flowers and couldn't quite figure out where it was located and then realized wouldn't it be much easier to see and wouldn't we have much better perception if we had three eyes instead of only two? triangulation is AWESOME. most people think loving math is very strange, hence i'm including this here.
8 - i cannot sleep without something covering me, specifically covering my feet. even in the heat of summer i cannot sleep without at least a sheet over me. in general i sleep with the blanket tucked under my feet like a cocoon. interestingly enough, i cannot stand sleeping bags or nightgowns because i feel suffocated/paralyzed in them.
9 - my elementary school was once on the show "unsolved mysteries" (for reasons i'd rather not explain).
oh, that's 10! i forgot i was going from 0-9 and thought i had one left to go...so following susie's footsteps i'll throw in a number 11 as well (though in a 0-9 number system would 11 actually be 10? i still don't get it).
oh wait jessica just showed up with cake so i have no time for a number 11. how about, number eleven, i like chocolate milk more than anyone i have ever met and clint will verify this for you. i really go crazy for chocolate milk. the end.
WOOHOO!
