The Friday before a big football game is usually Black and Gold Day in the 'Burgh. Before a national championship game, it's an especially celebratory time. Everyone wears their Steeler best to work, and local stores hang up Terrible Towels and blast one of the team's myriad fight songs (like
this one or
this one).
If the music isn't proof enough, here are some fun pictures illustrating just how cuckoo-bananas we are about our Stillers:
A lovely black and gold Xmas tree. This was posted to a Pittsburgh community a few days back.
This is the drive up to the famed "Steeler House" in Monroeville. Most people put one flag or decal on their cars, and a Terrible Towel in one of their houses' front windows. This guy thinks most people are pusses.
Just like me, twenty years ago, except I was at home; Steelers tickets aren't easy to come by. I love this picture, it was posted on flickr not long ago. Love for the team develops early and never fades, no matter where you go.
Yoi and double yoi! Obama loves the Steelers, too!
Pittsburgh is the heart of Steeler Nation, but the Steelers have fans all over the world- and beyond! These links answer the all-important question: Where is Steeler Nation?
