It's been awhile

Well...

I'm so loathe to update because it implies catching up with all that's been going on. Frankly, there's too much to get into. New York was awesome on all sorts of levels, but the weekend back in New Orleans, however, was a lesson in drunken belligerence being the enemy to feminine mystique.

I also had to pony up and get a job in NoLa; no waitressing ofcourse. At the moment I'm helping out and designing bags for this local handbag company. It couldn't be more fun, and I have two assistants that are older than me and about to graduate Tulane. I get pangs of guilt every now and then for giving these girls complexes, but not so often anymore. It was just so awkward when they were asking how old I was and where I graduated from...(19 and errrrr um well I START college in august...and I'm your boss.) You get the general picture. In other news, Celeste has a job getting molested by a middle aged Syrian. I mean, working at a pizza place. I mean, getting molested by a middle aged Syrian. Named Fuad. I used to think working would be so vulgar in NoLa, but I am absolutely in love with my job. I could totally envision myself working with them when we go national very soon all through college, but I have to adress the issue of my summer with the Powers That Be very very soon.

Which brings me into my most exciting news yet...I'm applying to study Arabic in Morocco over the summer! It'll probably be in Fez which looks GORGEOUS. It's down to either studying Arabic in Morocco or in the UAE at this desert oasis town called Al Ain. Yes, I'm neurotic, and the following is a list of the pros and cons of each.

FEZ PROS
-close to Italy to visit Davide in his new penthouse apt (he called me at work today yayyyyyy but so off subject)
-more european and familiar
-better shopping
-in the mountains = temperate climate
-less chance of terrorism
-I can visit other moroccan cities like Marakech, Rabat, and Casablanca
-I can wear western style clothes
-they speak french there YAY

FEZ CONS
-not near the beach
-moroccan arabic is kind of cracked out
-let me reiterate just how cracked out moroccan arabic is
-in the mountains = no beach

AL AIN PROS
-Close to Dubai (Helloooooo Raim aga Khan)
-Desert = fucking cool. Or so it seems in Hidalgo
-Some sheikh was from this city, so it's really well funded
-Sheikhs, you say? I'm still single.
-It's right by the border of Oman, which would be cool to visit
-Desert culture of the arabic peninsula is something i've never experienced...A civilized man never refuses a new sensation.
-my arabic would have a way more elitist accent if i learned it there--THEY HAVE A CAMEL MARKET! I WANT A CAMEL!!!
-Really close to Eritrea to visit Fiori
-seems more exotic to me

AL AIN CONS
-I'll probably have to wear some form of hijab
-Desert = probably unpleasantly hot, as in flies-will-land-on-your-eyeballs-for-moisture-to-drink-hot
-nowhere NEAR as close to Europe as Fez; plane fare would probably be ridiculous to go visit arlett and davide and randomness.
-probably WAY more expensive than morocco...they have Dior and everything else, which (as we learned in Italy) can't be within a 50 mile radius of me.

The other option was Cairo, but it's so big and populated, it'd be like an all arab version of NYC...all the vices, all the sketchballs and perverts, all the incomprehension. I don't think I want to be thrown into that living alone for 6 weeks. Granted, Egyptian arabic is widely understood; however, I just don't think I'd survive. Hmmm...I'm really leaning towards Fez. There are pretty much only 2 cons...and they're fairly whiney ones at that.

YELLA MOROCCO! I'm so so so excited. In a perfect world, I won't have to quit my job to go off and frolic for 6 weeks either. I suppose we'll see....
