Forum Writing Contest #1 : Saint Weather

I told you not to cry, Hikari.

The words echoed like it was just yesterday when I last heard your voice.

That’s why I told you to just smile.

A frozen lake will eventually be a warm bed of water and a mourning soul will eventually be able to become stronger.

It was winter then and we went to the rooftop to stare at the starless sky. I told you that it was not a good idea but you insisted that you wanted to go.

“Papa, your hand is cold... Please, wear my gloves.”

You grabbed my hand and then you pointed to the sky. With eyes that sparkle with the lights and with your wrinkled cold skin, you forced a weak smile.

“One day, I believe, I’ll be able to reach the sky and be one of those pretty lights.”

I remember the feeling of pretending not to be affected. I remember biting my lip forcing back the tears that were rebelling against me.

Don’t cry, Hikari.

You looked at me with eyes that tried to smile. Honestly, I saw that look in your eyes, the one that I saw when I was fourteen wherein I fell off the tree and broke my arm.

“Papa, don’t leave me behind.”

I saw you hide those tears when you closed your eyes and smiled at me. Then, you stared at the sky again.

“Hikari, do you believe that there’s a life after this life?”

It was then that you told me that a life exists after this life. You told me with your husky voice that you will be ahead of me so that you’ll be able to prepare our home.

I can still remember how I made a small laugh when you said those words.

Like the stars, Hikari, I will be watching over you... waiting for you in another life.

The smell of fresh grass filled the air, the voices of the jumping birds caressed my ears and the warm breeze wrapped its hands around my cold frail body.

I stood in front of a huge marble block with your name written on it.

This is not the end, Hikari, so don’t cry.

I can still smell the scent of the room where you stayed for months. I can still remember waiting at the empty hallway for hours as I paced back and forth in front of that room.

We will meet again, Hikari, so just smile for now.

The blood that we shared felt so cold the moment you went ahead of me. It was the very same blood that slowly made you fade away. It is the very same blood that now beats within my veins and reminds me of you.

“Papa, I’ll be gladly staring at the sky tonight.”

The song of spring began.

Rain, even if you come, I’ll still believe that Papa is watching over me.

Sun, even if you shine brightly, I’ll still look up to the sky hoping to see the stars.

“Papa, are you waiting for me?”

NOTE : ha. This is what I have been feeling for the past few days so bear with me. I did not want to write anything romantic or mushy so to say. :'D I wanted to make a story that has a family relationship. I hope you liked it and I don't really mind if you won't vote for it. All I wanted was to make you guys realize something important and I hope you were able to decipher what that is.. Thanks for reading! :'D

GAWD. how could I ever forget. Btw, this is based on UVERworld's 神集め. If this makes my entry void, it's okay. :'D I don't mind.
