Fake model Photoshop technique

I saw this on Friday night and was inspired to try the technique for myself over the weekend. Apparently it works best using images which are well lit by directional lighting (e.g. sunlight) to start with. Unfortunately I wasn't starting with anything like that. This is my starting point:



I took the photo from the plane on the way into Heathrow on my return from Moscow. It was a very dull, cloudy, grey day. Needless to say, I had to increase the contrast and saturation by bucketloads. I'm quite pleased with the result as a first attempt and I'd like to try again with a sunnier photo. Not sure if I've got any, though.
