The Mayors office

"Who were the four?" asked the mayor to his son, as the both of them sat in the center of his large, circular office.

"They were nobody important. There was the new crippled professor, a high schooler, the fat Neumann girl, and a somewhat interesting new player in town.. he claims to be dating Adalia" replied Hans, the younger of the two. Hans sat in the chair, with an ice pack over his left eye.

"Has she denied it?"

"No. I think we should call him in. He may be the anomaly that has caused our recent problems." Adolpho sighed a bit, and opened a book that sat on the desk. After flipping through a few pages, he looked at his son, and asked another question.

"Did anything other than the fact he claimed to be dating Adalia interest you?" Hans had to think for a moment, a task that he was not very good at.

"... He would make a great assistant deputy sheriff. If the outsiders see that we have accepted one of them as a city leader, more might attend our city functions."

"Make sure Adalia does indeed date him. Invite him to the house for dinner, and find out what you can about the other three. Did they like the little adventure I set up for them?"

"You surprised her. She asked me repeatedly if I knew what the tunnels could do."

"They got out, together. That was not supposed to happen. It was meant to separate them, make them lost. We don't want her forming alliances. Especially not now." Adolpho eyed his son critically. The man that was to be the next mayor sat on the other side of his desk, with a split lip, and a series of rapidly darkening bruises. "Instead of picking your bride, I think you should be eliminating your weaknesses. Adalia has beat you up, again. You cannot let her take control like this. This is our town, and she will not ruin this for us." Adolpho paused for a second, before looking at his son, and muttering something under his breath.

Hans was thrown back a couple of feet onto the floor. He picked himself up, and straightened his tie before facing his father again.

"You don't have to make healing me hurt so much."

"If times were different, I would let you heal the human way. It would not be worth the trouble of having you explain to the town where your cuts and bruises came from. Now go. Find out what you can about her group, and I will invite Adalia's young man to the house."
