“Why Oliver? Why…?”
“I…I’m sorry, Clark, but I can’t keep going on like this, not with you, I…I don’t-I don’t deserve you, at least not anymore, I-”
The blonde was cut off abruptly by desperate, needy lips; Clark tasting like tears but still sweet. His lover’s strong arms held him tight, not giving him any chance to pull away.
He wanted to stop kissing Clark, he needed to; but he also wanted to keep kissing him and never let him go. He has always loved Clark, ever since the young man turned his life upside down when they met.
But Oliver also knew he did not want to face his soon-to-be ex-boyfriend’s beautiful face crisped by the heartache that he caused. However, he could not keep lying to Clark, the secret was too much for him and telling him the truth was not a solution either.
He killed a man. Not any man, he killed one of the most powerful men in the world. He killed the biggest threat to his lover. Yes, he did this for Clark. Always for Clark.
“I don’t love you anymore,” Oliver finally finished his sentence after he pulled away, which proved to be difficult since Clark’s strong arms were still holding him.
There it was, Clark’s crushed soul written all over his handsome features, and he was the one responsible for this pain he wished the brunet would never have to endure.
“You’re lying,” Clark said as if he realisation just struck him, not releasing Oliver from his grip and seeing right through him, green eyes boring into his. “You love me, I know you do, what I do not know is why you are doing this,” he pursued as he grew more confident, “I do not understand why you are putting an end to such a…such an amazing thing? Because, it is amazing, you are the most amazing thing I have ever had in my life Oliver. I. Love. You,” Clark added as the last three words were barely audible, his voice betraying him.
That’s when it happened. Oliver’s heart stopped beating. It actually stopped beating. For a whole minute and if it hadn’t been for Clark, he probably would have been dead. Well, he did have this heart attack because of Clark. Clark’s despair and love and passion had literally torn his heart, shredded it to pieces: it was too much for a mere human to handle.
Now there he was, in a hospital, again. Less than a week ago, he had survived a bomb, now he had survived a heart failure. He knew he could not have Clark look at him like he was some kind of murderer, last time he did, it nearly killed him. Now he knew he would actually die without Clark.
“Hey babe, you’re awake,” Clark greeted him as he entered the room with flowers and brightened the sober hospital room with his infectious smile. Oliver’s heart started to race as his boyfriend-wait, were they still together?-climbed into bed next to him and kissed him on the cheek.
He was a killer. No matter what he had said to convince Chloe, no matter what he told himself every day; she was right. He was a killer. Clark deserved better than him. But he was weak and in love, Clark’s rejection would be the death of his so he had to try and end the relationship, which he even failed to do.
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Clark said happily, as if last night’s event never happened.
Clark was the best Valentine he has ever had in his life and he could not imagine anyone else being his Valentine. Granted he only spent one Valentine’s Day with Clark but it had been beyond his best dreams. So Oliver gave in, he kissed Clark hungrily, feeding his mind and body with love, with life; leaving all his worries aside for the moment. He would tell Clark about Lex’s murder later, even if it meant Clark breaking up with him, in which case he would die for good. He had no other choice anyway, so he was going to take the risk and keep Clark forever.
The need for air eventually forced Oliver to pull away and he could not help but grin at the sight of his gorgeous lover; he cupped Clark’s face with both hands to meet his eyes.
“I love you Clark, no matter what I say or do, I love you, I need you, I live because of you, I do everything for you. You’re my life Clark.”
