The Memory of the Eyes
Spring, on my second year of highschool. I was just wandering around in between the stall, not really caring for the school festival going, looking for someplace to take a picture when my eyes shifted the stage and then… I saw him. His moves, the way that the music looks like they surround him, giving under his command. It makes my heart beats in a way I never know. Looking at him, I Kim Jaejoong, realizes that I have fallen in love.
Jaejoong sighed for the umpteenth time looking at his phone. He have been searching for someone who might know the dancer that he saw performing on their school festival but to no avail.
The only thing that he knows is the blurry picture in his phone (courtesy of his jumbled mind at that time making him unable to take a decent picture) of the man dancing and that the man might be their school graduate and nothing else. He should have at least tried to speak to the man at that time, Jaejoong sighed again.
“What are you sighing about?” Changmin, Jaejoong class mate slash fighting mate slash table mate asked. Dropping his elbow on Jaejoong shoulder, he snatched Jaejoong phone away to take a peak without so much of a word. “Yah! Let me go!” Jaejoong struggle in vain to push ChangMin away. “Hmm? Why do you keep a picture of my brother dance team?” Changmin eyebrow scrunched in curiosity and Jaejoong ear perked on the info. “Your brother?” Jaejoong exclaim, ChangMin nodded while putting the phone back to his hand. “I think this might be him” He pointed out to the dancer at the center of Jaejoong picture, which is the very man that Jaejoong have been searching for. “He is your brother?!” “Yeah..” Changmin shrugged, his brow furrowed more as he eyed his classmate, eyes twinkling with something he honestly doesn’t want to know. “ChangMin ah!, we are best friend right?” Jaejoong excitedly grasp ChangMin hands “Huh? Since when we are even friend?” but Jaejoong seems didn’t hear ChangMin. “Let me meet him! Please please please??” Jaejoong put on his best pleading face. “I will even make you a lunch box every day!” He added for good measure. Jaejoong almost smirk when he catch the excited look that crossed ChangMin face at the mention of his delicious self prepared lunch box but managed to hid it well.
Changmin seems to contemplate the answer for a moment, eventhought its obvious enough. “Hmm…. Love at first sight huh?” He sighed. “Well, if you really want to see him then okay..”
“Really??! THANKS CHANGMIN-AHH!!” Jaejoong all but screamed, almost not believing his ear. Changmin covered his ringing ear while trying to move away from the gleeful giggling (really?) man in front of him “I’ll just give you the dance studio address..”
Jaejoong can’t believe that finally he got the chance to meet the dancer that he have been frantically searching. He wonders what would their meeting be? Because really, even until today, his heart still beats uncontrollably like that day, whenever he think about him.
ChangMin and Jaejoong decided to meet up in front of the dance studio where ChangMin brother usually practice. Jaejoong have arrived first and are waiting nervously until ChangMin come. Because Changmin have been well known in the dance studio, they are quickly ushered inside and directed to the rooms where his brother team are currently practicing.
There is the same music that Jaejoong heard back on their school festival. The beats of the music blaring loudly is making the floor shaking, as if the music come from inside the earth. Jaejoong watched in fascination as his eyes catch one man moving together with the beat of the music. He had never see the man face, he was standing far away from the stage at that time to realize the man handsome and strong face, the definite jaw and bow shaped lips, but he knows when seeing the man move, dancing, it’s him was the only think in Jaejoong head.
“What are you doing standing there? Come here” Changmin took Jaejoong elbow and both of them, despite Jaejoong half struggle to move, walking toward his brother. “Wait ChangMin ah..” Jaejoong hissed nervously. He never thought they would just straight away coming toward the man.
ChangMin let go of Jaejoong hand on a safe distance and give him the look which would mean ‘don’t run, stay here’ to Jaejoong utter annoyance. He waited a moment until the music slowed down before moving closer to the man. Taking in quick stride before the man moved much to Jaejoong confusion, he tapped the man shoulder. “Hyung” and the man stopped dancing all together. He tilted his head to look at ChangMin and that is when Jaejoong realized that the man eyes is brown colored.
He doesn’t realize when ChangMin have grabbed him near the man but then ChangMin have already introduced him. “This is Kim-Jae-joong” ChangMin gestured in a rapid hand movement, one time his thumb goes to Jaejoong direction and after that Jaejoong suspect that ChangMin is spelling Jaejoong name using his hand. Jaejoong realized that the man is eyeing ChangMin hand rather than looking at ChangMin. ChangMin goes about explaining why he brought Jaejoong here and the time where Jaejoong have saw him on the festival. All the while, the man only nodded after ChangMin have gestured a rapid hand movement that Jaejoong could catch. ‘could it be?’ Jaejoong wonder if his suspicion was true.
“Jae-hyung.. this is my brother Jung YunHo..” Jaejoong meeped as he feel YunHo eyes on his. The man is silence, before acknowledging him with a slight curt nod all the while Changmin also looking at him and it makes all the more awkward situation for Jaejoong “Eh..its..you know I.. actually-” Jaejoong stuttered his reply. His brain still trying to process, but he already has a guess.
“No- Jae Hyung..” ChangMin interjected. “If you want to say something, say it slowly and make sure that your mouth pronounced the word clearly, he could read your lips movement.”
His hearing.. “My lips?” Jaejoong asked confused “reads?” Changmin affirmed. “Yeah”
The abrupt explanation and the suddenness of everything makes Jaejoong brain jumbled, added with how ChangMin and more over YunHo looking at him expectantly is nerve wrecking. Should he say his name? no ChangMin already introduce him. “eh..I was..” Jaejoong tried to tell how he saw YunHo dancing the other day but then he remember that ChangMin have explained that just now. “I mean..” Should he said that the reason he wanted to meet him is because he like YunHo dance?
“Jaejoong hyung you couldn’t say things to much” ChangMin goes again. “Huh?” Jaejoong dumbly asked. “Its tiring for the first time, I guess”.
The more Changmin infomed him, the more nervous Jaejoong become. He need to say it simply, but how he could say it simply, how he could explain that he have saw YunHo dancing on the other day and he fell in love with it and dare he say fell in love with the dancer also? He know he should say something but he really couldn’t think how to simplify ‘Hi I fell in love with your dance and with you too’
“I.. uhm.." Four expectant eyes does not even blink in his direction. What is it again that I need to do? Simple? Short? Easy? Clear?
