It seems we can't escape the idiocy of the holidays. Even here in Hawaii.
We get the worst of people during the holidays. I don't know if the rest of the population (who happens to have an average IQ of 75) comes out during this time, kind of like Jews who only come to temple for Yom Kipper (guilty!), or everyone just becomes idiots this time of year. It's always perplexed me.
You know what I hate about shopping during the holidays?
Aisle Hogs.
Aisles in most stores are big enough for two shopping carts to comfortably pass by one another, right? I mean, even if somebody is stopped somewhere down an aisle, you can keep trucking on through.
So WHY do these geniuses strategically park their cart right in the middle of the aisle so that no one can get around them?
Now granted, this is a phenomenon that can happen at any time of year. But the frequency of occurrences seems to increase exponentially the closer we get to Christmas.
And then there's the wanderer. You know, the aimless shopper who weaves up and down the aisle like Lindsey Lohan on the 405 after a few too many Cosmopolitans at Hyde.
You can't get around them. Just as soon as you try to dart to the side of them, they walk right into your path, and they travel at the speed of the US Postal Service. So you're stuck until they finally decide to get out of your way. But they're too distracted by everything going on around them to even notice you.
Usually this person is elderly and was probably distracted by the load they just dropped in their Depends, so I have to have a little compassion. But around Christmas time, this phenomenon is not limited to them.
ARRRGH!
The good news is, Christmas is 3 days away, so the next 11 months will be peaceful shopping time. In the meantime, here's to getting through it, everyone.
