Where last we left our dragonhide-tanning, I had just finished mod-podging the surface, sanded it smooth, and I have since attached the buttcape to the cuirass.
So, the next thing to do is:
Put tape over anything you don't want to paint!
And then, paint it! As you can see in the pre-taping pics, first, I primed it with spray primer, then put on one coat of silver spraypaint to get the underlying metallic texture. I'd recommend using gold for hide with warmer undertones, like reds or browns. Black scales can go either way, with either gold or silver, but I think there should be a metallic sheen regardless. Reptiles are glossy, after all. Anyway.
And then to get the color I used a sponge-painting method, because A, it's faster, and B, it adds to the texture. I layered a shining green paint under and then over solid black acrylic to get the level of weathering on Vayne's cuirass in the reference images.
If you use the point of the sponge you can get under and around the scales to spread the green sheen on the still-quite-visible cheesecloth layer.
Seal it with one or two coats of clear paint and then, you're done!
...wearing a kilt while making this is rather silly from behind.
Um, Yoshida-san, is there something you have against pants...?
There! Hope this was insightful and helpful somehow. If you have any questions or if I missed something, just say so~!
