This is the first Hetalia fic I've ever read - and I must admit in no small part because it's the first I've seen that lists 'Canada' as a character - and I quite enjoyed it. Heart-warming and ominous at once.

Thank you so much. That's one solid compliment there.

Canada's kind of an Ensemble Darkhorse in the fandom. Most people adore him but the running gag is that he's overlooked and often mistaken for America, and as such a lot of people haven't explored him in fic. I really want to. And I think he deserves a bigger spotlight than I gave him in this story, but then again, this story is this story.

And I'm so glad it worked. Thanks for reading!

Ohh ♥ Why must you make Canada cry, America? England is actually good with the kids (for once). The 1700's ones were really heart touching.

Thank you! It's hard for me to write sweet things unless I undercut them with problematic notions....but I apparently can be cute? Maybe?

It never ceases to amaze me just how prolific and consistently brilliant you manage to be. Your interpretation of the US-UK relationship in particular is always fresh and unique because you visit so many periods and they're the same people but they aren't and I could pretty much read that sweet juicy development all day, geeze.

Because it has to be said, great work on America's childish voice. Kids can be difficult to write for without making them sound twee or overly articulate, but this is totally believable and cute in the best way (dark undertones and all).

I had never heard of this Benjamin Britten character, actually. Thank you for introducing me to such a...such a character. Wow. I love history. And music. And this story. And you. Teach me more anytime.

Thanks so much! I really love developing them--the thing I tend to do in fic in general is pick one character (in this case England) and beginning-to-end him, trying to fill in all the gaps in his development along the way until it becomes a complete universtory. I did it with Suikoden (Albert Silverberg) and Final Fantasy XII (Basch with a lot of Ashe there as well) and Tokyo Babylon (Subaru and Seishirou, who are, well, inextricable as far as I'm concerned). And because so much of England is wrapped up in America it's really a relief to hear I've got a good voice for him. (England I'm pretty confident about, though.)

Britten is AWESOME. A Character indeed.

I am verily impressed by the footnotes and think they do service to a very good story. The little New World bits are my favorites, but I'm predictable like that. But geez, I LOVE it when the countries get a proper talk with their history.

So much agreement, and I think you've really turned me on to that.

They are far too cute. I like writing England in parenting-mode...

Man, I just love all your fics. I always kinda feel a little silly after reading because I want to say something meaningful in a review, but it usually ends up something like "lol awesome" or something generic like that because my mind is blown with the great quality of your writing.

This makes me interested in that opera.

You are like, the greatest.

(Random: When looking over the Wikipedia link preview for Conscientious Objector, a familiar boxer guy appeared, hee.)

 I really appreciate any kind of comment, lol awesome dude this sucks or otherwise...I get so worried when people say nothing, think I'm doing it wrong because on the Internet silence is both condoning and dismissing and I get so confused...

Peter Grimes is a real piece of work--definitely interesting musically and in terms of the execution, well. It can be very very well done. And the story is, as stated troubling in general. I love using fic to get the opera out there.
