I just got a call:
Me: Hello? Hello?
[silence, then, as I'm about to hang up] Person calling: Hello.
[silence]
Me: Who's calling, please?
Person calling: This is [name] with [cable company].
[silence again, while I'm thinking "What do you want?"]
Person calling (impatiently): Is [person who pays the bill] there?
Me: No, he's not, but I'll tell him you called.
I mean WTF? And I'm fairly sure I got this same person once before, since I remember having this type of conversation before. If part of your job includes calling people, shouldn't you know basic phone etiquette?
