Been a while since my last proper entry. Making amends.
So, my computer is dead, won't even start up properly. Apparantly the graphics card slot was fried, which caused all sorts of other issues. Oh well. At least I managed to salvage my CV and a few other bits from it, but sadly the screenshots I'd been wanting to use in my next "proper" LJ update are gone. The good news? It forced my hand into getting a new PC, and I'm very happy with it. £800 for a Quad-Core, 64-bit Vista, 22" monitor, sexah speaker-system, more RAM than I can use, more HD space than I can use... really happy with it.
So, yeah, I got my Maat's. It's nice. I had considered doing a big job-by-job breakdown post, but I don't feel like it now I lost all my screenshots. Instead, I'll say: drk was the worst fight by far, and the only one I'd call hard (keeping in mind though that I did rdm at 75, not 66); rng was the worst to level, though without Nix's support I think smn would have been (Astral Burning is an unknown on Valefor, as far as I can tell); whm, bst, or rng were the easiest fights; and I'm very glad I did it. I learnt a lot about the game, it's jobs, and myself while doing so. I'd set myself a one-year goal of completing it when I started in October last year after getting Bonecraft 100, and I did it in roughly 10 months without any Astral Burning; without a dual-box to PL myself with; without much exping on pets (only did that on blm); without much East Ronf [s] Colibri abuse, either. It was truly done in a "grinding" manner, which is probably the slowest way to do it - I didn't even lfp most days - but it did leave me with a lot of beastman seals. 2.6k, roughly, by the time I had my cap.
So, what's a boy to do with so many little yellow blobs? The answer, of course, is to further demonstrate that he learnt something while getting his Maat's Cap other than "I like exping".
Solo'd as blm/rdm, max enfeebling and elemental merits, 6 mp 2 hp merits, lots of HQ gear for 60 cap, 3-4 yagudo drinks, and a pro-ether for emergencies. On my first run I didn't use enough MP before sleeping + resting, so the fight took longer than it should have. Buff with pro, shell, blink, aquaveil, use RR item, food (cream puff), run to Fe'e. Elemental Seal gravity, bio2, shock, choke, manafont, kite, and spam -agas until manafont wears off, then swap to single target spells and use a Yagudo drink. By the time your MP is too low for another nuke the DoTs should have worn off, so sleep and rest as needed; repeat for the win. It's very simple, but gravity/bind/sleep resists can leave you needing to think quick, as can Maelstrom if it gets too close, though you'll notice I often finished with full HP and healthy MP. And so there's no confusion or anything like that, I got the idea from Amunaptra's LJ (Nix80; not the same Nix who I spend so much time with, this is a taru!); and Albi soloing it on his own blm gave me the final bout of inspiration to try it.
Also, FusionRR has started teaming up with NuDawn to pop some larger NMs which we can't reliably do, due to both shells having below-average attendance. On Saturday we did our first joint Kirins, which went pretty well - many people complimented me on my nin/drk tanking, which was nice. NuDawn got W-legs, D-body, and Pole. We got... uh... um...
Yeah. Dela told me to finish it off, so I did! Too bad Mijin's TH didn't kick in like it normally does when I use it to get a kill-shot. We should be doing some more soon though, and maybe some JoLs too, which will be awesome! Though proper communication is important...
Not saying who did this, but god-damn was it funny and annoying. We dealt with it properly though, and quickly recovered.
Think that's just about everything. I got lots of overtime at work last week, so I'm kinda drained, and my birthday weekend kinda sucked, but oh well. I think I'll live ;) And yes, my Music thingy does say "St. Anger". It's awesome, I don't care that I'm supposed to hate it, it's like 8-minute long hardcore songs done by 40-somethings so lost in their own world they don't know what day it is. Lars' drum sound is so shit is awesome; and as someone pointed out many years ago, "everyone likes Darkthrone for their shit production, then Metallica do it and everyone hates it, what gives?". It still sounds awesome to me though :D
And oh crap! I forgot to say: after roughly two years of twice weekly limbus runs, I finally got myself some Nashira legs. VERY happy indeed! And I see Ultima's Heart drop too, for the first time ever! Congrats Kurai on getting it :)
