Scans: War of the Supermen, Red Robin, Justice League of America, and Detective Comics

May 23, 2010 11:20

I'll start with the important stuff from War of the Supermen, in which Zod contemplates his failure and Luthor continues his genocide.  Then there's a smattering of cool/weird panels from recent comic readings below!  With Lucius and Alfred having coffee!  Jeremiah Arkham channeling Frederic Wertham!  Tim contemplating the skimpiness of Dick's old uniform!  And Jade keeping her priorities straight!

But first, sad Zod!

The Kryptonian fleet is approaching Earth, but Luthor Has a Plan:

Well, technically the red light from the sun shouldn't get there for another ten minutes or so, but...ah well.

I've decided Luthor is a robot--there was another Luthor robot on Brainiac's ship, and I would like to think all of his recent erratic behavior can be explained by Toyman/Mad Hatter tech and robots who don't know they're robots. Not that Luthor is OOC in wanting to kill all Kryptonians, just that this way Kal and Kara (and the reader) can get revenge on Luthor without the real Luthor being truly responsible.

Meanwhile, plenty of people have talked about how awesome Red Robin has been, and I agree!  The overall arc has been wonderful for Tim's character.  I'm just putting up a couple of cute moments.  The first is Tim fighting an assassin who can kill with skin contact:

*snicker*

The other is Lucius and Alfred having coffee and discussing things:

I would pay good money for a comic book titled Lucius Fox and Alfred Pennyworth Sit and Drink Coffee and Talk Obliquely About Things.

In the more "bizarre" category, Jeremiah Arkham has slipped into insanity in the bat-books (only a matter of time, basically). In the opening of the most recent Detective Comics, he reminisces about the past in a voice infused with Freudian analysis (and a fair amount of repression):

That last sentence is a nice meta-textual analysis of comic books, I do believe!

I do believe Arkham has some...issues.  :)

Finally, in this week's Justice League of America WTF moment, Jade comes back from the dead to tell everyone of a terrible, terrible threat to all that we know and love:

...

I assume the reference to McDonald's is meant as a joke to lighten the mood, but it doesn't, it just makes the mood very weird.  It's like Jade is back from the dead and seriously jonesing for a Big Mac.  "Starheart!  Do not destroy Earth!  Spare its people, its monuments...its delicious french fries, so crispy..."
