1990-1995 is the absolute nadir of Superman and Batman's friendship. Elie Wiesel is quoted as saying "The opposite of love is not hate. It's indifference," and between 1990-1995 Clark and Bruce prove that point, as they simply do not speak to or think about each other at all, with only very rare exceptions. Oddly enough, in some ways I find this

~ I've been going through the SuperBat comics. I've read "Generations", which is a freaky trip through time, showing you old old school and serious future business. If you wanna talk about a gap in time, in that comic, in the future, Superman leaves Earth to search the universe for who knows what, just exploring and taking some 'me' time vacation cuz he's lonely cuz all his peeps are dead and so he doesn't see Bruce for nigh 3000 years. Bruce becomes immortal from Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pit and they finally meet in space cuz Earth was too boring since they cleaned up global crime. That was insane. They decide to continue universe adventures together for the rest of forever, although there is an annoying tag-along. It was interesting overall and explored their relationship, even if it was a far out AU.
~ Also, I read a compilation "World's Finest" vol. 1 and that was cool with old school comics. I'm reading SuperBat "Worship" and usually Lois annoys me cuz she's getting in the way of my hot man on superman action but sometimes, she is really cool. She has guts and attitude and swagger. I only hate her when she's on Clark. ;p But yeah...sorry for the long intricate response.
~ PS: How seriously slashy was "Public Enemies"? Bruce kept trying to be all hardcore dark and serious but Clark is all sardonic and smirking like "I know you want to hit this!" and I loved it. One of my favorite scenes was when Clark had the kryptonite stuck in him and Bruce was trying to get it out and Clark makes a joke but Bruce is all worried so he says "Do me a favor and lose the sense of humor." Then Clark says like an injured cowboy "Do us all a favor and buy one." They could have jumped each other right there. Then at the end, Bruce is all self-sacrificing, as always, and out of all the heroes on Earth, the one with all brains and no powers has to save the world and gets it done! (That's why Batman rocks so severely!) So Superman thinks he's dead and someone calls and says there's still a chance he may be alive and he doesn't pause for a millisecond, breaking the sound barrier to speed up and save Batman. That is twu wuv. It's what they didn't say! ;)

Generations is a bizarre and hilarious AU, isn't it? Byrne sure had fun creating loads of angst for Clark and Bruce, but did give them that weird happy ending together (yes, and Lana, but Byrne is obviously a Lana/Clark shipper).
The Public Enemies movie was so much slashier than the book, I was so delighted and surprised by that! Much, much better. Also, Clark totally called Bruce "my best friend" in the movie, which was a first as far as I know. Yummy.
