Luthor is SO fun to write here! He's not a great person, but he's not at all a villain, either... It makes it a joy to write him, really. :)

“Well,” said El Dragón, “Since I’m going up against Killer Croc, I was thinking a David and Goliath story might be good. I was thinking a story about a small man overcoming great odds would be one the audience would like. And then as champion, I would like to promote literacy! I would like to be a face champion that focused on getting young people to read more!”

Oh, Jack, Jack, Jack... you know, if you did that, regardless of what Lex thought, you'd be blackballed... and I wouldn't be shocked if Amanda Waller put out a hit on you. (Seriously, there were suggestions amongst the NWA promoters back in the 80s that they should put out a hit on Vince McMahon for trying to go national... imagine what they'd have done to someone breaking kayfabe that blatantly!)

It's funny, I suddenly realized Jack would make a good Andy Kaufman, but it seemed to work better in reverse--someone who thought it would be a hoot to expose all the wires and levers instead of someone who wanted to play kayfabe to the hilt. :) Though if I wanted to go in a really dark direction, I could have Napier dumped into a vat of acid by a bunch of angry promoters...

Interesting pitches. I do like El Dragon's pitch, especially about the literacy, and Conner's story was hilarious with Lex's reaction. "Uh, no offense." "None taken." *snickers*

Dick's right about the belt and him being champion. He's got great instincts! :)

I like Clark's moment of human pettiness as he gloated over Billy's humiliation. Considering the monumental backstab, I say gloat away! :)

I like Clark wanting to just show up as Superman but Bruce is right. They do need to make it memorable. And I'm glad they talked out what to say if someone should ask whether they're a couple or not.

“That just leaves me,” said Dick Grayson. “And I’ve got the best argument here and you know it.”
“Oh? Do tell,” drawled Luthor, sitting back and steepling his fingers.

Dick held up a hand. “I’m not finished. There’s more. Bruce is coming back soon, it makes no sense for me to hold the cowl much longer. If I take it off after losing in the tournament, it tarnishes the legacy and you know it. And it makes me look weak, like I gave it up out of disappointment rather than of my own free will. Or worse, like Bruce made me give it up. That’ll hurt both Nightwing and the Dark Knight. You need me to win this tournament in order to get Bruce’s return as over as possible and tell a story that’ll stay in peoples’ minds forever.”

Bruce glared at a passing chihuahua, which gave him a goggle-eyed look back.

*grin* The image of Bruce and a chihuahua doing a stare-off made me very happy!

And yes, the memories of having Bruce be hurt are going to haunt Clark, I think. He won't take their relationship for granted at all! Not that he ever REALLY did, but you know...
