They use the door!! Sneaky pickpocket Dis!!! And I LOVE how you snuck one of the Seven in :3
Bilbo's awe at the beauty of Erebor, at a dwarven kingdom alive, is wonderful.
"Mîn, daughter of Lîn,
YOU SNUCK IN ANOTHER LADY DWARF YES VERY YES
OK the entire passage about Thror lying in filth and wretchedness tore my heart into a million pieces and I think anyone who has had to watch an elder relative fall into decay will feel the same, oh god. I had to skim over a little bit of it actually because the descriptions were so well rendered I couldn't bear it.
"Why, where has that hobbit gone?"
OF COURSE. Thorin's moment of 'I'm not risking anyone I love' with Bilbo sneaking after him is beautiful hobbit love-based stubbornness, it smacks delightfully of "Sam, I'm going to Mordor alone." "Of course you are - and I'm coming with you!"
"Yes," came a voice at the door. "Obey your King."
PURE BADASSERY. Though I admit the surrender yourself to justice line comes off as less Thror and more Superman XD - it works though!
"It fell off," he whispered, almost to himself. "Why did it fall off, where is it?"
It fell off because it likes to betray its bearers, it sensed someone with a greater potential for evil nearby, and because Thrain smelled like crazy. EXCELLENT touch. The Ring wants to be found, and it was suddenly in a room with someone more likely to give it back to Sauron eventually than Bilbo would.
"I don't think your father approved of me."
BABIES. Oh my god that whole bit, each of them throwing themselves in the line of fire for each other, willing to die for one another but grateful that they lived, and then diffusing the situation with humor oh it's everything I love in my OTPs my heart I can't
*flailing incoherently*

Extra lady dwarves for the win! I just find them so fascinating...
Ugh ugh ugh writing Thorin discovering Thror just killed me to write, I had to stop and take a break and cry for a while, I confess it! I'm glad it worked well enough that you had to skim it, if that makes sense...
Hobbits, man--you just can't shake them once they're convinced they're going along with you!
It fell off because it likes to betray its bearers, it sensed someone with a greater potential for evil nearby, and because Thrain smelled like crazy.
The semi-sentience of the Ring totally creeps me out! Brrrr. It was like "OH LOOK ONE OF MY KINDRED RINGS ON A CRAZY DWARF."
I had no idea what Bilbo and Thorin would talk about there in the dark and then realized that of course Bilbo would make a joke, of course he would. And yes, oh dear, I think I could write them throwing themselves into harm's way for each other endlessly. :)
I am really kind of reluctant to write the last two chapters, oh dear! And yet writing Bilbo in a thriving Erebor is a wonderful idea as well... *happy sigh*
