The sudden downward turn of the Bat-books has made me sad! I've been really pondering it lately...my growing theory is that Bruce tends, narratively, to go through a very predictable character arc in most stories: he starts off competent and stable, then has to suffer some big reverse that makes him drive everyone off and sink into depression/paranoia, so that he can emerge from it stronger and re-establish ties with everyone who cares about him, restored at the end. The difficulty is that I tend to set all of my stories within the high-point of the arcs. :P I often get told that people enjoy how I write Bruce "out of character" as a sane and stable person, but he's well-adjusted and together pretty much at the beginning and end of every canon story! That's fine for fic-writing purposes, but it means that in almost every Batman comic story arc there's this bewildering and painful time in the middle of the story where he acts what I would consider OOC, but is basically just his usual character arc, no more or less OOC than the well-adjusted beginning and end. But yeah, that week was a serious bummer for me. Now I've got to decide whether to dump those titles at the end of the month...I've considered dropping Justice League too, but since it's the only place I'm likely to find any Bruce-Clark interaction, it's a hard one to drop...

"Journey to the Center of the Batman is maybe my favorite episode of all time. Oh Platelet!

See, for me my canon Bruce is BTAS (as much as I love the comics), so sane and stable is how I think of him most of the time. Broody and brusque, yes, but sane and stable.

"That's a lymphocyte."

"PLATELET IT IS!"
