You know, the story started off with Clark being part of the discussion as well, but I'll be honest, MotS Clark's reactions were pretty snarled up and complicated, and it muddied the waters a lot to include them! I cut it back to just Bruce, but Clark's feelings on the matter are still kind of simmering around, because you're right, they're an interesting counterpoint...
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to try my hand at something more reflective and poetic, and it was an interesting challenge.

The Kryptonite, whether it's a ring, a bullet, or just a plain rock, shows the depth of trust between Clark and Bruce. And it never cease to amaze me. A lot of people think it shows Superman's faith in Batman, in humanity. But to Batman, to Bruce, who had swear never take one life, never cross that line, it's terrifying.
Clark will notice his hands are cold, will take them in his own and kiss them as though they had not just been holding his death. Bruce will touch him over and over, feeling the faith like a flame beneath the skin, warming his fingers into life once more.
Awww...I am glad Clark is there to kiss it better. <3

Oh man, have you seen the cover to next week's Justice League? I am just dying to see the rest of that. And there's more interaction between them this week in The Dark Knight, although I didn't really enjoy part 1 of the story (lots of punching, not enough friendshipping). I'm still hoping for just a smidge of h/c, though...
A lot of people think it shows Superman's faith in Batman, in humanity. But to Batman, to Bruce, who had swear never take one life, never cross that line, it's terrifying. It's true, I think you put that really well. The burden it puts on Bruce, the sacrifice he makes just by taking that responsibility, is incredibly weighty. I'd love to see more of that in canon! I know that someday the idea of being in charge of the Kryptonite will be back in canon, I just hope we won't have to wait too long ( ... )
