Action Comics #6:  Written by GRANT MORRISON;  Pencils by ANDY KUBERT.  Backup written by SHOLLY FISCH;  Pencils by CHRISCROSS

Action #6 is basically a digression issue, slipped in to give Rags Morales time to catch up on his art, it seems.  However, it's a useful issue for filling in a fair amount of background on Clark's childhood and past.

The basic plot is that Superman (apparently the one from "our present," come back five years into the past) is here to save his rocket.  The rocket's Kryptonite fuel source is failing and for some reason if it fails the world will be in terrible danger.  The Legion discovers that the people who stole the Kryptonite power source are...hidden inside a microscopic lead bullet in Superman's own brain.  They go into Superman's brain to stop them, and Superman remembers his first meeting with the Legion kids.

One interesting tidbit is that apparently Superman's first Fortress of Solitude is going to be in a satellite orbiting the earth:

Moving on the the flashbacks, we see Clark and his father bringing in a stray bull:

And he remembers the first moment the kids from the Legion approached him:

Meanwhile, Superman has been attacked and poisoned with Kryptonite.  Um, I don't really know what the thing attacking him is, to be honest.  It's written like he knows it (he calls it "Erik") but I don't know if it's a character that hasn't appeared yet (time travel!) or one from a different story...

Anyway, Clark realizes that his dying of Kryptonite poisoning might actually save the world, if he can just get to the rocket in time:

Awwwwww, I always love stories where meeting the Legion is such a happy event for Clark.

The backup...well, I'll be honest, the art threw me so much at times that I'm not posting a lot of it, but it has some very good information about Clark's early years.  Some of the key points:

--Clark is friends with both Lana and Pete;  Lana knows Clark's secret while Pete doesn't seem to (but in some early versions of the character, he found it out and just never told Clark he knew).
--Clark seems to be renting the family farm to a neighbor when he leaves for college.
--Fisch gives Clark the classic motivations for wanting to be a writer that I love.
--Clark is inspired by comic books to become a caped superhero.

I recommend the whole backup, as it has a lot of detail about Clark's earlier life, plus a very nice scene with Lana.
