Action Comics #3 starts off with a flashback to Krypton, featuring a pretty darn adorable baby-Kal and finding a way to link Brainiac to Krypton without going the animated-series route of having him be the planetary AI. Oh yeah, and an interesting hint:

OK, next month will be awesome if Steel and Metallo are going to be in it.

I love all the very, very Grant Morrison Silver-Age shout-outs! Even if I wouldn't get them, having not seen the source material, I love a man who loves his mythology gags.

And Lara is so gorgeous here...she's like a Goddess.

I don't mind lumpy Clark as long as I pretend he's disguising himself or something.

OK, next month will be awesome if Steel and Metallo are going to be in it.

At one level I'm tickled about Steel showing up so soon--at another I'm annoyed simply because it means "Death of Superman" really, really didn't go as it used to. Which I guess already had to be true what with Lois not being engaged to him and Superboy not showing up until now, but every reminder that the stories I've read didn't happen kind of grates on me, lol. But if Irons is awesome I'll get over it!

And Lara is so gorgeous here...she's like a Goddess.

Yeah, I was very taken with her as well as Battle Action Jor-El. This is about how the Krypton in my head has always looked, so I'm quite happy about that. :)

Good point, since Morales' Superman doesn't usually look so scruffy it's not a difficult mental feat to pull off. :)

"Battle Action Jor-El". That needs to be cast in plastic and on my mantle. Right. Now. As far as the Krypton in your head, I can definitely see that...that's exactly how I imagined them dressed when reading From This Day Forward.

I admit, since I'm more familiar with cool characters than I am canon stories in regard to Superman, I come at this whole reboot from a different angle.

I think the reboot is perfectly tailored for people who know the characters at least a little but aren't emotionally tied to specific storylines. Honestly, I know to enjoy it more I need to let go of my grip on previous canon, but it kind of drives me crazy every time DC announces some "little" change that plays havok like a ripple effect outward. I'm working on going with the flow--I don't freak out every time a new story about King Arthur has the events unfold differently, and it's not much different here!

I can't imagine they'd put in that panel if it wasn't going to lead somewhere--and I don't think Morrison's going to have him be an actual ghost, so...I don't know, I'm pretty hopeful that Krypto will make it! He's a lot, um, bigger than he used to be too. But then, since Ace is back to being a Great Dane that'll work out just fine. :)

lol, XD oh man clark made laugh for how he looks. I love the kryton flashback, but why does it look soooo different in drawing style? like they are very hansom and beautiful and the other panels are rough and plain looking. it feels like 2 different artist did the work instead of one. and super dog is very interesting in this.

Yep, theclexfactor is exactly right, Ha did the Krypton work and Morales the Metropolis work. I'd gladly hand over the whole title to Ha after this issue, however. :)

I just realized while posting these that he's wearing what will be his cape someday.
YAY, I didn’t notice it before. That’s awesome. :) And I SO loved the first picture of baby Kal-El with the reflection of the stars in his eyes. Actually - I loved him in all the flashback - he looked so cute and adorable (and happy). Oh, and looking on those pictures it reminds me your words how sad and lonely is Clark/Superman now (in Superman) - it’s so true and it makes me so sad. Poor Clark. *sigh* Happy, smiling baby Kal-El with his family - I loved that! (And though it turned out to be a part of Clark's nightmare, I was glad he could see those pictures of him as a happy baby with his mother in his dream too.)

It's Krypto! Who I note with relief does not look much like the six-legged horned goat-thing whose body Luthor had, so maybe there's no connection after all...
I have exactly the same feeling about it. *crosses fingers*

I really like the way Lara is drawn and written here, how immediately she assumes Jor-El is correct and how ( ... )

Geez, doesn't he look like the perfect baby? I just wanted to cuddle him. :) As for the aloneness...this was a tough issue for me, having Clark be discouraged and depressed is always so hard to read.

And I wonder (because I don’t remember if I read it anywhere) - there were two pencillers working on the comic - Rags Morales and Gene Ha. Does it mean the flashback of Krypton was drawn by Gene Ha and the rest of AC was the art of Rags Morales? (At least it is as it seems to me.)

That appears to have been the case, yes. I wonder if there'll be more flashbacks (I figure there must be, leading up to the death of the planet?) and if Ha will draw them? Oh, I really hope so, and I'd love to see more of Jor-El and Lara (and Krypto!)

Oh NO! And I hoped there could be someone that knows his secret. Maybe she can avoid getting offed? Perhaps they'll just ( ... )

I so loved this issue! Oh Clark, don't give up!

The Krypton flashback was brilliant and loved the whole Lara/Jor-El interaction (and baby Clark, of course).

But after three months of reboot I'll still be glad to have Clark back as the Superman I know and love.

The more different versions of Krypton there are, the happier I am. :)

I think Morrison is taking him that way fairly quickly, though I'm not sure. That is, the whole "beating up thugs and domestic abusers" theme is kind of fading out already--Superman can only do that while his powers are less AND while there aren't planetary baddies showing up and threatening the planet, and with both Brainiac and Darkseid showing up around this time he's going to be forced to step up into a bigger, wider role. I think. (I hope!)
