First, if there is an award in excellent writing and beta-ing, it should go to you and damos! *applause* I'm even using my special Lois&Clark reporting team FTW icon in your honor, cause you guys are amazing. GO TEAM! :D
Okay, onto te story! I love how the media is all over the violence, so willing to show the possible death of children/civilians/batman on live tv. And I love Clark's perfectly legitimate disgust with it. I know that he uses that disgust as an excuse to get the hell out of there and help Bruce, but it was also great for him to use that opportunity to give Ryder a big F-YOU.
"--Hey, maybe you've got the luxury of sober reflection, Mr. Print Media." Ryder pointed the index cards at him. "But here in Gotham we don't shy away from showing the truth in all its messy reality!"
OH HOW I LOVE THIS LINE. The jab at newspapers, and then later when he calls Clark a wuss, made me rage in a good way. It's as though being seen and getting to shout at people on tv makes him more of a MANLY HE-MAN. (And in real life, I always make sure to buy newspapers because--and this is how my mind actually works--I think to myself: "Clark and Lois will be out of a job if I don't!" LOL)
You got Harley's voice perfectly! And she was so wonderful, so many great lines! mano a womano cracked me up.
"I don't need help," he gritted, articulating each word. "I don't need...anyone's stinking help."
"Sit down," hissed Ryder, and Clark realized he was on his feet, staring at the dark figure on the screen. In an instant the world re-aligned, everything was clear, and there was no time to curse his own stupidity because Batman--Bruce--was speaking again.
I screamed-squee'd at this. Loudly. With lots of flail-y arm movements. Use your imagination. This is quite possibly my all time favorite identity reveal, of any character, of any media, ever. The end.
Gotham was maybe my favorite part--every time I went in and tinkered it insisted on being there more, and I kind of fell in love with Burly Guy With Baseball Cap, lol. Anyone who would call Batman "man" is okay with me...
Gotham was so incredible and awesome and and YES! And Baseball Cap Guy was great. Your portrayal of the Gothamites was very Nolan-esque, and that made me all kinds of happy. They're not perfect, but they're not cowards and they know a hero when they see one! And it led so wonderfully to these two lines:
It was the death he would have chosen, he had time to think in that silent moment, with Gotham in his gaze, shining and safe. It was a good death.
And:
He had made his choice, and Gotham had saved him.
*tear* Bruce/Clark is my OTP, but I totally ship Batman/Gotham. The first line is so fitting of his love for his city and THE SECOND ONE! Bruce, Gotham loves you baaaaack!!!! <3 <3 <33333333333333
The death of Harley took me by surprise, but again, it fit very well in Nolan's universe. Kill off those pesky villains, dammit!
OHH! OH OH!!! Babs kissing Bruce's cowl! OHHHH!!! *flails some more* She was awesome. Smart girl, indeed! And I love the little detail of when Batman arrives to rescue her and Jimmy, Jimmy is all excited and shouting for Batman, but Babs is still trying to keep the secret that he's a good guy by not saying anything. *hugs the Gordon family*
I am so very excited to see how you wrap things up from here!!! Beautiful chapter!! <3333

I owe it all to him! Pretty much anything that's awesome in this chapter was his doing, I confess it. :P

Ryder is always portrayed as whatever the most annoying personality of the moment is, it seems, so...he was kind of Glenn Beck-ish here, lol.

Eee, thank you! I might just have something of a thing for coded reveals, lol.

I love Bruce/Clark (um, duh) but it had better not interfere with Batman/Gotham! I love Clark being able to understand that, although I know he doesn't always really get it, either...

Oh, that car is empty when they fish it up. :) PROBABLY her body was swept out to sea. PROBABLY.

Mmmm, I loved them all here so much! I think she hugs Batman because she just can't really conceive that there's a flesh and blood human in that suit that could ever be hurt, you know? But she can keep a secret, yes she can! :)
I am so looking forward to wrapping things up! I've been planning the scenes and just having so much fun spieling out conversations in my mind...it seems every character really wants a chance to talk a bit. Um, and maybe cuddle. :)
