Batgirl #17 featured a team-up between Steph and Damian, quickly becoming one of my favorite DC team-ups (along with Kara & Steph and Kara & Damian, lol). The two are developing gradually and quite naturally into an amusing brother-sister vibe that makes me really happy. Plus there is adorable bonus Damian-woobie:
D'awwww. Part of him just wants to be a real live boy! But most of him, I'm happy to report, is still quite content being Batman's crazy ninja-assassin son, thank you very much.
The plot is a kidnapping scheme against a bunch of kids which forces Steph and Damian to team up:
Damian finds the crossing guard suspicious, so he grabs him to dangle and question. Steph shows up for witty repartee. Notice the continuing struggle of the dangling guard--it's touches like that which make the book so much fun.
They decide Damian has to go undercover on a field trip with the kids, and Steph manages to somehow come up with the most embarrassing possible outfit for him. A smiley-face t-shirt? Really?
That's such an adorable woobie moment--but you know, I think it would have been better if he'd said "Richard" or "Dick." Yeah, it wouldn't have had the same kind of punch in some ways, but it's Dick who symbolizes normality and well-adjustedness to Damian, not his legendary father.
The school bus is hijacked, Damian manages somehow to change into his Robin costume, and they kick some ass together:
Steph salvages the situation, the kids are saved, and at the end we see her deciding to take up a bit of Damian's "training":
Hee, I just love the alternating panels with them going up and down. Nice art, good writing, I love this title.
Streets of Gotham has been spottier, but I did want to include this nice little Bat/Cat moment:
I'm terribly taken with her hand curled around his cowl in the kiss, somehow. Yummy. (Although now that I'm admiring it carefully, her hand should probably show up in their reflection there. Ah well).
