Jeph Loeb, finishing up a run on Superman, moved on to Batman and the story arc called "Hush" in 2002. "Hush" has its flaws--the key one being that as usual Loeb tends to let his stories end with a whimper rather than a bang--but the middle parts, where Bruce interacts with most of his allies and rogue's gallery in turn, are a lot of fun. The arc is notable for a wonderful set-piece of interactions between Clark and Bruce and then Superman and Batman.
Also, I admit I like Jim Lee's art and especially his pretty, pretty Bruce.
There's a sequence near the beginning where Bruce comes to Metropolis hunting for Poison Ivy, who has fled there. Loeb takes the opportunity to write Bruce, Clark and Lois meeting at the Daily Planet in a lovely sequence:
Oddly, between 2001 and 2002 Lois has somehow learned of Bruce's secret. That's clearly a bit of canon that needs to be filled in someday.
Also, I'm very dubious about Lois's choice of work clothing, lol. Poor Lois, always forced to fill the quota of T&A with a reporter's wardrobe.
I love Oracle's "It will take some time to hack Lexcorp,"
Note Perry's statement below that Lucius warned him Bruce was in town. The idea of Perry and Lucius exchanging emails about Clark and Bruce makes me gleeful...
Batman and Catwoman (who's angry because Ivy mind-controlled her) find Ivy, but Ivy's been busy in Metropolis:
Ivy: MY Superman. Not yours!
Bruce: Grrrr.
In the next issue, Batman has to fight Superman, it's a good fight sequence where Batman manages to slow Superman down quite a bit (one time electrocuting him with the entire Metropolis energy supply), but Bruce admits that Superman is fighting the mind control with all his strength so he has some extra leeway.
Gratuitous Cleavage Shot!
Though I really like Selina's annoyance with Lois here. That and the scenes below make me want to see Bruce/Selina and Clark/Lois out on a double date, lol.
They get Krypto, and he hunts down Ivy quickly. Wrap-up and Heartwarming Friendship Affirmation time!
Hee, Krypto being all "I LIKE YOU PRETTY LADY" below is hilarious.
I assume on the basis of "Hush" and "Emperor Joker," a year after this Jeph Loeb was given the assignment to be the first regular writer on the new title Superman/Batman, which gave him free reign to crank the bromance to 11.
