The recently rebooted Adventure Comics--traditionally the title where the Silver Age Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes had their adventures--is off to a kind of rocky start as Levitz does a LOT of recapping. I kind of appreciate it because I've missed so much Legion history (like, 30 years of it), but it's probably pretty slow going for anyone who knows the Legion.
That said, #12 was a fun read for me because it captured what the LOSH always brought to Clark Kent's background--a sense of friendship and destiny combined. Here Superboy skips Smallville's Homecoming to go hang out with his Legion friends. Brainiac is dubious about playing hooky:
But in the course of the day Clark gets to do things with the Legion that his secret prevents him from doing in Smallville. It's a sweet and wistful issue with a touch of angst for Clark, one that most people with a normal high school experience can more or less empathize with:
Of course, to the Legion Clark is the future Superman, the greatest hero that ever lived. That's an extra dimension to his relations with the Legion--although they're his friends, there's always a little extra distance there, I think, because of what they know. Saturn Girl shows Clark his own museum (I can't imagine that's a good idea: "Oh look, this is Doomsday! You totally beat him! And, um...ignore those tattered black banners on the wall, okay, Kal?"...but oh well) and Clark has a bit of a freak-out:
Clark explores Metropolis, which he's always wanted to visit, and he gets to stretch his powers in ways he can't at home--delivering medicine to another planet and discovering how fast he can go, and that he can survive the vacuum of space.
Awwwww, sad Clark at the Smallville dance! *hugs him*
He gets to kiss Phantom Girl as well. :)
Clark heads home after and tells his father how he feels better about his future now--he can't remember any of the details, but he knows it's going to go well.
Also, a quick clip from Gotham City Sirens: the latest story arc had some nice interactions between Selina and Harley; I was happy to see them get some screen time together. I liked this short exchange a lot:
