So I spent last week waiting to hear back on one of my job leads, and I spoke with the recruiter on Friday; 'I called them to see what was going on and the account manager was out sick,' he told me.
'Perhaps Monday will be better,' I thought.
So I emailed the recruiter this morning and he said that
1. The account manager is ready to move forward with the interview process, but
2. Some other candidate is their top choice, based on resume, and the entire process will take longer because
3. The hiring manager is having an operative procedure and so
4. Everything will take additional weeks, and that I
5. Shouldn't consider this a viable position any longer, based on how long everything is taking, but
6. He'll keep me in mind for future opportunities.
The whole thing just makes me want to barf with rage. WEEKS I've been waiting for something to happen with these people, since the week of Xmas, and now this. Bah.
I still have one more semi-solid lead, but otherwise it's back to Monster and Careerbuilder, and all the other wretched jobhunting sites.
For more depressing news, here is a chart detailing the job losses over the last 13 months and comparing them to the early nineties and 2001 recessions:
It's from the Speaker of the House's blog, and I got it off Boingboing. If the green line ended in a little toilet at the bottom the illustration would be much more vivid, but alas, I have no photoshop skills. And I really should get back to pinata ranching.
