Yesterday I talked to a staffing agent about a job.
Basically I was fooling around on careerbuilder, saw the job, and wanted to be sure they'd gotten my resume and that I gave them the shiny new one I made.
The job was for a technical writer position, and it paid 14.50 an hour. Since some of the more experienced technical writers (seven years' experience and up) can make up to 80 grand a year depending on their employer, I figured this one would be a junior position and I had a good chance.
The weird thing is that they required the applicant to have worked in an environment communicating directly with engineers, and had a working knowledge of Auto CAD.
I know conceptually what Auto CAD is, and how it's used. Does that job requirement seem strange to you? It does to me, especially since the pay they listed was so low. The only reason I ask is that I was making 14 an hour at element, and have seen a couple of administrative/executive assistant jobs with salary listed between 15 and 19 an hour.
Am I really off? Is it just sour grapes?
