I am feeling good today.
I think it's the weather; we've finally gotten a bit of fall-ish weather, and while my daily outfits do not vary if the temperature goes below 60 in the morning, I saw a coworker yesterday with a leather overcoat. Our newish Boss, who arrived from Boston in June (and who I shall call Bostonboss) was chatting with another coworker about how lovely the weather was, and asking 'Is this as cold as it gets?'
We do get a week or two in intervals where it doesn't get above 60 all day, and I LIVE for those days. But mostly our fall/winter stays between 60 and 75, getting up to 80 on a few occasions. It sounds great in theory, but it means you must layer before leaving the house as a 40 degree morning might end up an 80 degree day. I suppose people would still trade that over months where the tempature stays below 30.
Some drunk guy at a party I attended a few weeks back aggressivly asserted that the reason I liked cold weather was because I've never really experienced bone-chilling, so cold you can get horribly sick cold. And that's sort of true; The coldest I get is the occasional night where it dips down to 30. But honestly I'm happiest when it's between 30 and 50. And I don't run around in a tshirt either; I just like bundling up against the cold.
Anyhoo, I just feel great. The last of the things I ordered with my Amazon gift certificate came last night: 50 Great Ghost Stories, edited by John Canning. They're so deliciously lurid, and since it was a first edition it came with a book cover! It's like a tourbook to the Haunted Mansion at Disney: all eldritch greens and chalky grey, with bright purple lettering. And it's rough, pulpy paper, none of this acid-free shit. It'll age a wee bit more every time I read it.
I had a good smoothie (there's an Irish guy who replaced my normal Smoothie Lady), I've been very active the last few days, and I think tonight I'll put away the boxes I was fiddling with and work on my steampunk outfit. The actual outfit is simple, I just have to dress it up with some accessories.
