This is the start of me spouting off useless yet very interesting information. Hence, Part 1.
The "I thought I'd add" part of this is that when I was younger I'd almost always add some piece of information to a conversation that was either too far removed from the original subject matter, gross in some fashion or possibly containing information that most humans either aren't aware of or could care less about (many times both.)

Wikipedia:Black-body Radiation So, right now, you and everything around you is emitting visible light. The reason this light cannot be seen is that it has a very low intensity so it is overpowered by the light that is reflected by the object.
So basically, every material around you has an innate "color" that it emits that isn't actually the color you see that object as, all you're seeing is the reflection(s) of the major light source. Most other colors are absorbed and the color you see of the object is probably not the color of the actual object.
So as usual, everything around us, is not as it seems.
