This is NOT a review, this is a PETITION...
On 27th September, Dr Mindbender82 posted an entry to the Poetry Community entitled "Christ is on the TV"...for those of you who havent seen it I say have a look, oh and be warned about its content, because what Dr Mindbender doesn't say beforehand is that he has included pornographic images as part of it

i've always wanted a band wagon, now that i've actually found one, i'm not so sure they are actually driveable or roadworthy. how about you?
I've had a good read of your post. I wont apologise for dr mindbender's personal attacks on you since i didn't make them but it can be frustrating when people resort to this tactic, in particular when you feel so strongly about the situation.
However, drawing a line in the sand and saying, you're either with me or against me is a little far? a little american, a little religious zealot for anyone's liking. don't ask people to side with you. don't put people in a position where they have to choose the side of good or evil simply because you got a little hot under the collar over a few snatches of porn.
wait wait wait... before we come to your rights, my rights everyone's rights bla bla bla.... let's just have a look at the context.
the context here is a poem expounding something very close to your own views. what is under scrutiny is the availability of such imagery and the moral bunkrupcy that plagues our tvs and airwaves. thes are not 'gratuitous' images. a gratuitous image would be one posted for no reason other than to post some porn on the poetry community, but timb as placed the images within a well-defined and justifiable context. perhaps all he is guilty of is a little youthful arrogance in his response to you and his unapologetic lack of warnings.
taking sides is kid's stuff surely, since there really aren't any sides, just a bunch of people trying to be heard. when you intimate that the issue is black and white, what you get is a bunch of people taking a stand for a side that doesn't rightly express their views. this is a little dangerous. let's just all be heard.
perhaps rather than calling in the big gun, micheal, to LEGISLATE can we maybe agree on a simple code of conduct. if it could possibly maybe offend someone then preface it with a warning or use an lj tag exactly in the manner cellaneous has suggested. unfortunately, a legislative approach usually leads to people suddenly being offended by all kinds of things and we quickly arrive at a complete stranglehold on any kind of expression. that is not a very effective place to leave live journal. which leads me to your rights, my rights and everyone's rights....
our really important right is not the right to glide through our live journal experience unsullied by an offensive image, but the right to freely post whatever we like on live journal. your own post here might be considered to border on a viligante tirade in someone's view and should anyone be subjected to that? i don't think anyone wants a situation where their expression is sensored for them rather than regulated by them.
i think certainly that timb's post should have been tagged with a warning since it contains explicit material and perhaps he is guilty of a little ego, a penchant drama and little inconsiderateness, but not of gratuitously posting images for no other purpose than to offend.
as much as you might be offended that he didn't have the forethought to warn his potential public, it would be good if both 'sides' could see the morality of each others views whether they like them or not.
this is difficult but surely achievable?
cheers
