After giving back my red-headed stepchild, we had to wait a month before we could foster again because of the concern that another animal may catch ringworm from her. Although that didn’t stop the AWL frm calling us three times, unaware we were blacklisted!
I had the date marked on my diary when we could foster again and anxiously waited by the phone. I was JUST on my way out the door to work when they called. I handed the phone over to mum and said “Whatever it is, we’re getting it”.
I arrived home to this sight.
Marshmallow on the left and Arnie just peeking out of a wash tub that he had commandeered as a bed. I hate the names they give these animals. Marshmallow became Mushy, which I agree isn’t any better but he LOVED his new name and would come running to it. Arnie, I kept accidentally calling Archie and then that became Arnibald.
They were absolutely identical- but not related, which I still find hard to get my head around. They had a bad case of cat flu and their little noses were caked with snot. They enjoyed cuddles and getting as close as possible to your face before sneezing and spraying you with the ensuing gluggy mucus. My personal favourite was Mushy with a direct shot into my open mouth as I yawned. Yum.
Arnibald was the more placid and younger of the two, which makes it surprising that Mushy was the one who still tried to suckle. Arnie was quite happy as Mushy snuffled all over him trying to find the elusive teat. It was never going to happen a) because Arnie was not his mother and b) well, wrong gender. One time we were napping and I woke up to Mushy kneading my head, trying to find a teat. It was like a mini-massage!
There must be something about me that attracts animal ninjas. Maybe I’m like Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was the cats’ favourite activity. And this is my favourite picture of Mushy. And possibly my favourite cat photo ever. It's like 'Where's Wally' with a small ginger cat.
It didn’t take them long to be rehomed and they went on the same day. In my head, they have been rehomed together. So that they can continue their screen climbing escapades. I just hope their new owners have reinforced screens like us.
