Well, I imagine her mom might not see why this change in duties would be so stressful, and is looking at both the money and the fact that the current reason for job stress would be gone. I confess that given a choice between two jobs with different but roughly equivalent problems, I would probably take the one that paid half again as much.
Except, well, not so much if I already had one of them and was still looking for a third option that would be better than either, and didn't want to go and jump ship on the second one so quickly, especially if it was the one where the duties were worse but the people were better. :P
You hit the nail right on the head. That's exactly what she thought. That if I had to be unhappy, I should be getting more money for it. You math people have a hive mind or something!! =)
The same thought occurred to me, but considering the main reason for me to seek new employment is to get rid of the health isues I now have thanks to the stress, moving to these kinds of jobs won't help. What it will do is burn a bridge with my current boss, and also means I'll leap at the next job that comes along with both more money and the no stress issue, leaving this new and perfectly well-meaning department almost as soon as they've hired me.
I guess I just don't think that's fair to them.
So I will wait on the third ship to come along.
And btw, HI!!! ::snugs on the Peek!:: How are YOU doin'?
Well, it's one of those "all other things being equal" things. ;) If it were a question of staying indefinitely in one or the other, or taking one in the first place, then taking the one with more money would make sense. But as you say, since you wouldn't stay, the level of personal and interpersonal hassle outweighs it.
In math terms, I think she was leaving out some variables. ;)
I do love my work. And I dearly love my departments. Dearly. I would love it if one of them would hire me outright. About 80% of my current stress (which is resulting in insomnia and acid reflux, and might I remind everyone I'm 25 and far too young to be dealing with this shit?!) comes from the fact that I think my job has to do with making customers happy and my management says this, but doesn't actually do it.
I realize I'm still young and idealistic and think that businesses can be run by honest people working hard and doing the right thing. And I realize the world doesn't really work that way. But dammit, the way the world works now is so inefficient and FRUSTRATING!! How can my way be any worse?
