The danger of handwarmers

Alright, so, I'm back from Jamaica, which means it's time to start keeping up with this journal again. Or perhaps it's about time to start a paper journal, the kind you hide under your mattress so no one reads it (or place it conspicuously where someone is bound to run across it and open it out of curiosity).

Anyway.
I thought I'd grace you all with a little bit of wisdom that I gained yesterday.

As warm as your toes will stay, it is NOT a good idea to place one of those chemical hand warmer packets on top of your toes between 2 layers of socks. If it's only going to be for a little while, maybe. But if you're planning on keeping it there for 2 or more hours, you are greatly risking a serious burn.
I used to do that little trick during marching band to keep myself warm during parades, so I figured it'd be safe to do again while I froze my nose off trimming an apple orchard.
It was not a safe thing to do.
I now have a very blistered middle toe on my left foot.

So if you wish to keep your toes warm, either stick the warmer under your foot as the instructions describe, or just wear some warm socks with some insulated shoes.
