We had a track meet today at Anderson, and let me first say that today kicked yesterday's ASS. Yesterday, I wasn't throwing so well, I had angst about student/teacher relationships, I was irritated with a few friends, I was worried about my uncle and the surrounding family, Marvin Teaches Fingerspelling PWND me... it wasn't grand.
Today, however... WAS.
Long story short, I got 3 personal bests - one of which was almost better by about 10 feet, but I fouled twice.
Discus, my best moved from high 70s to 80 feet.
Hammer, my best moved from 85 to 87 (I almost had a throw around 100, but.. fouled)
and Javelin, my season best jumped 12 feet from 97 feet to 109 feet and my personal best of all time jumped 6 feet from 103 to 109!
Overall, girls won the meet and guys got second.
Why was I so fueled and ready to throw?
Type your cut contents here.
Javelin was being run cafeteria style - you go over and throw between events, when you've got time. The other two Goshen women's jav throwers had gone and I was working on hammer. One of the other throwers (also a hammer thrower, but not a jav thrower) came over and started bragging about how our top thrower made a new school record today in the high 116s and the other one threw 98, and it was her first time throwing javelin! YAAAAY! ::cough::
Then, she went out of earshot and said something about, "98... that's better than what Rachel throws." Yeah. Of course, I was promptly told what had just been said. Rub it in, bitch. Good idea. Take a shot at the pride of someone who's main event is THROWING A SPEAR, effectively.
D, who heard all this go down, came over to me before my throws and told me the best thing anyone could have at that point. "I know you're pissed - I am too. She shouldn't have said that. Just take that energy and put it into your throws. And whatever you do, beat H's jav throw."
Well, my next two hammer throws were BEAUTIFUL - both around 100 - but one was out of sector and one I didn't have control and stepped out of the ring. But still. Now I know I'm capable.
Oh, and someone got hit with a hammer. It was coming towards her, she turned her back on it to run (very bad idea. don't turn your back on a hammer) and the wire caught her around the ankle. She's fine.
Then, to javelin.
I was so ready to just... Oh man. Get a great throw. I warmed up - I was the only thrower there at that point - and went for my first throw (we had 4 throws in each event). My first throw ended in a faceplant. I really wish I had a video recording of it, because, as embarrassing as it was, it had to have been hysterical. My back foot caught on the ground and I DROPPED. My hands were occupied with my attempt at throwing, so I just fell.

My face HIT the ground.
K almost peed her self laughing (after realizing I was not injured, of course) and I almost died of embarrassment. The event official felt so bad for me that he let me retake the throw. It should have just been a foul, but he let me redo it. I ended up throwing 109 something inches - a personal best - a throw that was 11 feet further than H. TAKE THAT, little "that's better than Rachel's throw" beyatch!
And now coach will never let me live that down. And neither will the other track members who know about it. And we don't even have video of it. For shame.
On other news, please keep my family in your thoughts. My uncle, the same uncle who fell off a silo when he was 18 and almost died, went to the hospital yesterday evening after a bad fall. As of now, I don't know what all is broken, but I know he currently has no motion from mid-chest down and has a tube in his throat making it easier to breathe. He's in his mid 60s, I think. This is pretty rough on his wife.
