Today was filled with things that made me want to discuss and discuss and .. yeah. You get the drift.
Convocation this morning was a presentation on immigration. Anyone who is not a Native American was an immigrant to this country at some point, yet the US insists on dehumanizing modern immigrants and treating them with blatant disrespect. Our economy would fall apart if not for the immigrant workers, harvesting our crops and watching our children and cleaning our houses... On top of that, have we not learned anything from history? Why do we insist on building walls along our borders? I thought it was fairly common knowledge that the Berlin Wall was a bad idea. Walls won't help matters. Latin America has always been allied with the USA, but the USA tries to economically colonize these countries. So, should we all go up to a friend or ours and say, "Hey, I know we're friends, but I think I have the right to control your life." It's just not right. Why do humans have to hate other humans? I can understand personal, individual quarrels, but why does it have to be group against group? We dehumanize particular groups so we can justify hating them.
Hearing what the speaker had to say really made me want to go back home and punch a few people in the face - the people who I recall verbally expressing support for the USA/Mexico wall. The people who spoke hatefully about immigrants, "I want them out of my country! I'll kill them!" Just... ugh. People are so inhumane.
Then I watched this ridiculous video for art called "Wild Wheels." These "car artists" were showing their highly decorated cars and arguing for the label of "art" for these cars. But is it really practical to have this amazingly decorated vehicle complete with flashing lights and glued-on toys that distracts other drives if it gets shitty gas mileage and you can't get it insured? I think maybe there's a reason that it's not insured - it's overkill! It's a safety hazard! It's dangerous for the driver of the car and it's dangerous for those sharing the roads. On top of that, I think that some of those "artists" should be evaluated by a few psychiatrists. They just scream "I'm mentally unstable!" - not because they are eccentric about their car, but because they're completely loony! ::shudder:: It was a bit unsettling for me.
I'm not sure what else I felt like discussing, but this suffices for now. My nerves are somewhat calmed now, but life is just stressing me out at the moment. I'm sure it'll calm down, or I'll at least adjust to this pace of life. At the moment, however, I could use a hug.
