Moved

Our movers showed up an hour late, but then managed to get everything out of our old place and into our new one in 2 1/2 hours. Add 3 car trips (one of which was to bring just the cats) and we were 100% moved in. We did some cleanup of the Apartment of Doom and turned the keys in at 11:30 am on Saturday. After that, we took an epic trip which ( Read more... )

Glad to hear it went well! Have fun setting things up to your liking!

"Measuring tape, graph paper and scale drawings are likely to be involved."

Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that, lol. Although, my awful chicken scratches are never actually to scale. ;-P

In one particularly small college dorm room, we actually went so far as to add to-scale construction paper cut-out furniture so we could play with arrangements and the mechanics of moving it all.

Well, I am currently rearranging the bedroom furniture based on one such drawing. Apparently Martha's dad did the same sort of thing when he was younger.

Good luck getting the arranging done! MFV gently mocked me before our first mutual move, because I had him help me measure all his furniture and got basic plans from the landlord. I usually use my computer to make a few pages of room-shaped grids and scaled (I hate to admit this) color-coded shapes that match the various pieces of furniture, so I can move them around with my mouse to find a layout I like that's possibe. Note, I was mocked before the move only. Turns out the planning really helped.

I'm up to three sets of files for three moves. They've become a kind of documentation of where I have lived. I have a different office chair now, so I'll make it blue for our next move instead of pink. Is it bad that I think this is fun?

That is awesome. I'm not sure if I still have the graph paper sets from former moves. Two residences ago, I hung the scale drawing of the apartment on the wall. Doing it all on the computer sounds like a rather handy trick.

We got the bedroom arranged, though I ran into some minor difficulties because I forgot to account for outlets and the plugs sticking out of them.
