Considered world renowned thanks to the 28 paintings that the impressionist Claude Monet painted of it. The Cathedral in Rouen, France had one of the highest spires in France, erected in 1876, a cast-iron tour-de-force rising 490 ft above the building. Construction on the current building began in the 12th century in the Early gothic style for Saint Romain's tower, front side porches and part of the nave. Interestingly, this is the cathedral where Joan of Arc was tried and down the road is the spot where she was burned at the stake.
