Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1

Nov 19, 2010 03:57

Holy shit, guys. I can't decide if I should sleep or not; is there point right now, since I have to be up for school in a few hours anyway?

Yeah. I just got home from the midnight release of Harry Potter. And for how ridiculously big of a fan I am, it might be surprising that this is my first midnight release for anything HP - book or film. But all the times before I was at camp, and god that sucked ass when it happened.

But now I've finally done it. And Colleen's probably going to drag me along to see it three more times since she's most likely missing it due to the band field trip, but I don't mind. Because I absolutely loved the film.

Guys, gonna be honest here. I didn't like the seventh book. Not as much, at least. I mean, I thought it was okay at first, but the ending and the pacing just irked me, and I...hmm. I don't really know. It never sat well with me. But the film...the film did it well.

The thing, I think, that made me enjoy the film better, is the camping scenes. Because when I was reading it, sure, I would visualize the forests and the places they would camp, but it wasn't totally real to me. But the visual medium made it so much easier to connect with the story, fill in details that I wanted but couldn't have because there's only so much you can say in words.

There's a lot that I want to talk about, but I'm tired and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to stay awake (though if Kirsten keeps playing Glee songs in the background...), so I just want to touch on a few things.

I absolutely love the way that they did the Three Brothers scene; it reminded me, somewhat, of the puppetry in Pan's Labyrinth mixed with that Chaucer video we watched in Brit Lit last year. And there was this one part, right after Ron left, where Harry and Hermione are listening to the radio, and he pulls her up and they start to dance. I loved that, the way that you could tell that they were both trying to deal with him leaving them, and their friendship really shone through in that scene. They looked like they were having fun, even with sadness tinged to it, and that...it was just great.

Something I noticed that I thought was just the right blend of creepy: after Ron leaves, Hermione ties her scarf onto a tree before Disapparating with Harry. When the Snatchers catch up with the three of them, Fenrir Greyback is wearing Hermione's scarf. That was a great touch, if I'm not just being paranoid and imagining things.

Also, I loved the soundtrack. I need to get a copy of that somewhere.

I'll talk more later. Now I've got to focus on not falling asleep in class today. Not that I haven't stayed up till five thirty on a school night before, but still.

In other news, I've started collecting Pokemon cards again. I BLAME KIRSTEN. In return, I got her addicted to Glee. >D
