Angel of death

Life was so much simpler when I was on the leash of the Laberatory, I had no freedom, no will of my own, but that was what made my life simple back then, I was not weighed down by the mantle of choice, responsability and commitment, I was a weapon they directed.
Have I exchanged one set of chains for another?

I went to the hospital last night, in the late hours past midnight, before the early morning, when humans are most tired and their guard is most down.
The Kingdom the place is called, a strange name for a huge building full of sick or dying people. Sneaking in was easy, logging into the computer, finding Kirstens mother was only slightly more difficult.

The place was almost deserted, only the drowzy nightshift was walking the halls. the place reminded me unpleasently of the Laberatory, the scent of surgical steel, septics, chemicals and death.
I found the room where Kirstens mother were, a single bed occupied it, the pale moonlight shone on the old woman in the bed. Were it not for the IV's soft bleeps I would have taken her for dead already, so frail and withered did she look.
closing the door, I walked up to the bed and placed a hand gently on her head, a single twist and I could go find someone to feed off.
Just then she opened her eyes and looked at me, what made me hesitate, was the fact that there was no fear in her eyes, just resignation and a hint of hope.
and then she asked me, her voice a shuttering whisper, she asked me if I was an angel, I don't know what an angel is, but it seemed so important to her, so I just nodded. Then she asked if I was there because it was time for her to die, again I just nodded.
and of all things, she smiled and told me that she'd regonized me immediatly. only the angel of death could be as terrifyingly beautiful as me.
Bemused I asked if she wasn't afraid to die? a little, she told me, but she was old, her body broken and she missed her departered husband so terribly, she was ready.
she looked up at me and asked me how it was like to die, for a second my hand twitched, eager to snap her neck and be on my way, then almost by it's own account, did I start to stroke her hair. with my other hand I took one of hers and put in on her chest. I told her that she'd fall into a sleep and never wake up.

She then asked me for a favor before she had to go, I told her to ask it, she told me it was properly not a good thing to ask the angel of death about, but she wanted me to look out for her daughter and especially her grandson, he would take her death the hardest, he hadn't been the same since his father died.
I nodded and told her that I'd look after David and Kirsten, she thanked me and closed her eyes. I stood there in the dark room, stroking her hair gently, slowly increasing the pressure on her chest, at some point she feel asleep, I not sure how long she'd been asleep, but at some point I applied so much pressure that her lungs wouldn't expand after exhaling and with a soft sigh she died.
I've killed many people, I've never seen a look of serene contentment any of their faces before.

as she died, the IV went flatline and an alarm went off, quickly erasing traces of my presens, then hid by the door, as a nurse tore open the door and rushed in, switching on the lights, I slipped out behind her and ducked into another room, as other hospital personal came to the room. I could hear them fight to revive her, after a couple of minuts they declared her dead.

after the hallway quitted down, I exited the room and left the hospital. To find some one to feed on and mul over this must odd of kills.
