Kitchen, MCA#1, Saturday Morning

Apr 26, 2008 19:02

Lulu was at the stove, poaching a couple of eggs for breakfast. There was already some fried ham, and she had a bit of Hollandaise left over from dinner the night before -- perfect for Eggs Benedict.

She was humming to herself as she worked, completely oblivious to anything odd or exciting that might be going on in Fandom this weekend.

Jean-Paul came out of his bedroom, shut the door, and said, "Now, before I let her out, here is what you need to know: the world has decided to twist the knife today. And she wants Cheerios."

"Twist the knife...?" Lulu asked, even as she grabbed a box of Cheerios from the cupboard, a bowl from the one beside it, and milk from the fridge, all in one smooth chain of motions. "White sugar or brown?" she added.

It's Fandom. Sometimes it's easier just not to ask.

In reply, Jean-Paul opened the door and let out a tiny blue-eyed girl, who he scooped up onto his hip. "Joanne, this is Miss Lulu. She lives here with Papa. Lulu, this is Joanne." A beat. "My daughter."

"Bonjour," Joanne said politely. Then she lit up. "Are those Cheerios?"

The door opened and very very quietly, a little boy toddled into the kitchen. He didn't bother Mommy so much as find a happy spot under the kitchen table and plop himself down to start playing games.

Mommy would kiss him and hug him when she'd made the nummy food.

There wasn't anything said, but after what had happened already to Jean-Paul this morning, Lulu could make a few assumptions. Therefore, without any words spoken, Lulu knelt and placed a plate in front of the boy, one holding a poached egg on toast, with a little bit of Hollandaise -- on the side, in case he decided he didn't like it.

Then she returned to finishing her own breakfast. The boy seemed quite capable of caring for himself.

He smiled at her, bright as the sun, before eating up the food. When he was done, which was much quicker than it should have been, he toddled over to her with the plate... and a kiwi.

"Why, hello," Lulu said, kneeling down again to take the plate. "Is that for me?" she added, looking to the kiwi.

Oh, look, there was a boy knocking at the door.

The balcony door.

Lulu glanced over. Jean-Paul was inside, so who could... Oh. Another one.

"Hello," she said, as she came over and opened the door.

"Hi, Mommy!" said Jean-Luc, flinging himself at Lulu's waist.

That was... only partially unexpected.

This was clearly going to be one of those weekends.

"Hello to you, too," she said. "You certainly seem excited to see me. Is your father around at all?" She rather thought she might know the answer, given how he came in through the balcony door and all...

Okay, so Daddy's silly apartment building had clearly gotten up and moved overnight or something, because it wasn't where she'd left it and it took forever to find it! But she did eventually, which is why she's knocking on what she's totally, absolutely sure is the right door.

Lulu wasn't sure she could deal with any more surprises today, but nonetheless she went and opened the door. "Oh, hello," she said, preparing herself in case this one launched at her, as well.

"Hi!" Bronwyn chirps brightly. "...You're not Daddy!" she says, tilting her head at Lulu.

"If it is mine," Jean-Paul called from the kitchen, "I am not home."
