MCA #1, Friday Evening

Mar 07, 2008 20:26

Lulu bustled around the kitchen, organising a few different ingredients for recipes she thought might be fun to try. The door was propped open slightly, so that the expected guest could come right in (not that she expected him to, but he could). ... And also so that cooking smells could waft out when the evening began.

"For once," he said, his hand curled around the door as he peeked in with a faint smile, "I've brought you something. Unfortunately, though, I've only got the one left. They seem to have gone over well. May I come in?"

"Of course, Liir!" Lulu said, waving him in with one hand while she set an extra block of butter on the counter with the other. "I can't say that I'm surprised -- everything I've had of yours has been rather delicious. Have you given any thought to cooking professionally?"

He blinked as he stepped through the door, closing it carefully behind him before pulling Andrew from his pocket and removing his bag. He placed them both on the table, within eyesight of the kitchen but certainly not in the danger zone of kitchen incidents.

Well, after a kiss between the floppy little ears. Andrew cooed. Liir whispered something quietly to him before scritching him once and heading into the kitchen, the very last of the spiced brownies in hand.

"No," he finally answered, "Not really. I didn't even know you could--"

No, that wasn't true.

"I guess I didn't think I'd be able to. It seems something of a career."

I.E. something above his talents or abilities.

"It is, yes," Lulu said. "And it's something at which I think you might excel. Certainly, you're more than capable of following any recipe I've seen you encounter; what makes you think you'd be unable to do so professionally?"

He shrugged before presenting the brownie in a brilliant change of topic.

"Tell me what you think. If you like it, I've got the recipe in my notebook, ready for you."

Any recipe was really only as good as how much Miss Lulu liked it.

"And after, there's a bag of caramels I've had for you for ages. The same ones that came with my midterm, if you remember them."

Lulu tried the brownie.

Lulu made little sounds that are probably not appropriate for making in front of a student.

Liir grinned and ever so quietly crept over to his bag, pulled out his notebook, and walked back over with the recipe.

He held it out to her.

Then, thinking better, put it on the counter to let her finish as he went to get her something to drink from the fridge. It was very good, but he also knew it to be very rich.

"Liir?" Lulu said, after swallowing the brownie. "If you don't at least consider becoming a professional chef, I will fail you. Unless you have some other career path to which you're already dedicated, of course, but honestly? I'd consider changing your mind anyway."

He laughed and handed her the juice he'd poured.

"Nothing at the moment, no," he said with a smile. "And I believe Professor Beaubier mentioned there worlds where chocolate was a worthwhile commodity. I'll consider it, though, if you think I have the talent for it."

Miss Lulu's opinion on the subject was just about religious doctrine to him.

After a thought, the bag of caramels was put on top of the recipe.

"So... what were you thinking of doing tonight, incidentally?"

She'd get to the caramels when she did.

She needed a moment to recover from the brownie before getting to the chocolate. "Well, actually, there's a brownie recipe I thought we might try," she said. "I doubt it's as good as that, but there are a few variations I'd like to try."

He blushed.

"You're flattering," he pointed out with a faint smile. "Or you just remember who got me into trying new things in the first place. Now, what's in it? The recipe you wanted to try?"

"Coconut-orange chocolate chunk brownies," Lulu explained. "And I thought it might be interesting to try them with raspberry instead of the orange, as well." She paused. "And perhaps lavender?"

He considered it for a moment before perking up.

"What about violet? I don't suppose you have violet water here, do you? Something to balance the smooth coconut and the faint pucker of the raspberry? It's a little softer than lavender. Sweeter as well."

His mind was working to the point where he didn't even think of what he was saying.

He looked up at her, a little like a deer in the headlights.

"Whatever you think."

"Liir," Lulu chided, softly, "you're allowed to have your own opinions. As a matter of fact, I don't have any violet water, but I do agree that it might go well with the raspberry. How do you think lavender would go on its own, with the coconut and the chocolate?"

He grinned.

"Brilliant," he said. "I do like lavender. There was a shortbread cookie that Four would do sometimes that used it."

"Then lavender it is," she said. "Lavender, and raspberry, and orange. And once I can get some violet water, we'll try the raspberry again, yes?"
